  • St. Cloud Park and Recreation Department is hosting free winter events through March. Riverside Park holds Sunday sledding, skiing and snowshoeing from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. in January and February, and Lake George offers ice skating with a Mamma Mia sing-along on Jan. 23.  KNSI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wabash National will close its manufacturing plant in Little Falls on April 17 — layoffs will occur in two rounds with the first around March 6 and the second about April 3 — affecting over 50 workers. St. Cloud residents facing job loss can get free career counseling at Career Solutions on Northway Dr.  St. Cloud Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Porcupine Petting Zoo has updated its team name and is inviting families to join its refreshed lineup for a Wild West-themed trivia marathon. The contest will run from Feb. 13 through Feb. 15 — a fun, multigenerational event costing $60.  WJON

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Economist King Banaian said local holiday shopping grew slightly last season (with online sales rising from roughly 10 to 15% of retail) as brick-and-mortar shops show modest gains amid typical January closures and shifting gas prices.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • During the academic year 2024 to 2025, the SCSU Planetarium hosted 88 shows featuring films on dinosaurs and supervolcanoes and guided stargazing tours with a unique analog star ball — free for SCSU groups, with additional community education sessions added due to high demand.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Jan. 5, the Pierz Pioneers went 3-3 in dual meets against several teams while the Rocori Spartans won 4 out of 5 matches at the UWWEC duals. Both teams showed strong grit and promise for the season.  WJON
