ECONOMY NEWS

  • Minnesota added 8,900 jobs from September to November while the state saw its unemployment rate climb due to 8,500 new job seekers — St. Cloud lost 431 positions as Rochester led gains in a strong private sector.  KNSI
  • The Economic Development Authority said proposals for redevelopment at key properties including the former Herberger’s, Electrolux, and Media Services sites are coming after the Downtown Comprehensive Plan is finalized+ strong interest in downtown investment is expected to boost momentum into 2026.  WJON

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Anglers are enjoying ice fishing on central Minnesota lakes with about 12 inches of ice as warmer weather melts snow but does not weaken the ice; experts advise checking ice safety before venturing onto the ice.  WJON
  • University of Minnesota researchers developed a new water treatment method that uses activated charcoal to absorb PFAS + forever chemicals from water supplies. The approach is still in pilot tests in Waite Park and Sauk Rapids and may soon help clean local water.  KNSI
