COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Northern Hollow Winery in Foley is hosting the inaugural Battle of the Badges Chili Cook-Off today from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The sheriff’s office, Foley PD and Foley Fire will each prepare 10 gallons of chili — with $20 tickets supporting the winning department.  KNSI
  • The Community Charity Challenge raised over $739,000 this holiday season — with a $150,000 match from the Norman C. Skalicky Foundation — to support Catholic Charities, the Salvation Army and St. Joseph food shelves. Although the event has ended, local food shelves continue to accept donations year-round.  WJON
  • Yesterday, Quarry Park hosted the Moonlight Ski event from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. organized by the Stearns County Parks Department for cross-country skiers and snowshoers to enjoy four miles of lit trails, bonfires, treats and raffle prizes—free ski rentals came from Fitzharris Ski and Sport and Revolution Cycle and Ski.  KNSI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Macy’s announced a restructuring plan — its Crossroads Center store at 4101 West Division Street in St. Cloud will close along with 13 other locations nationwide. Clearance sales will begin mid-January and run for about 10 weeks before the store shuts in the first quarter.  KNSI
  • Von Hansons Meats will open in Sartell this spring near the public safety facility, offering quality meat choices for local shoppers. The store is set for the northwest corner of the roundabout at Pinecone Road and County Road 133.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Green Thumb Owner Ashley Green is hosting the Love Story Wedding Show in St. Cloud on Sunday, Jan. 11, with VIP appointments (10:00 a.m.) and a general session featuring the 104.7 KCLD fashion show from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  KNSI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SCSU's new president Gregory Tomso, who began Monday, is calling donors to fund campus improvements and plans local college partnerships for Two Plus Two programs to boost student retention + he also will meet with city officials to support a new strategic plan for campus renewal.  KNSI
  • The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hiring at least 175 students for paid summer internships—interns work 20 to 40 hours per week, earn $19 per hour, and must apply by Feb. 2 for positions starting in May and June.  KNSI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Stearns County will hand out 200 free radon testing kits starting January 17 at the Household Hazardous Waste facility in Waite Park (a few kits will be at the county service center) to help residents check for an odorless gas that can lead to lung cancer.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Crush beat Willmar 6-2 Thursday night at the MAC with six different players scoring to lead a strong team win.  WJON
