COMMUNITY NEWS

  • AARP opened applications for the 2026 Community Challenge grant program to fund small projects that improve public spaces in central Minnesota. Applications close March 4 and awarded projects must be completed within six months.  WJON
  • The St. Cloud Antique Auto Club hosted its 50th Annual Pantowners Car Show & Swap Meet in 2025, showcasing vintage vehicles and drawing a crowd with local flair (gallery credit: Paul Habstritt).  WJON
  • A new WalletHub study has ranked Minnesota as the second-best state for raising a family, thanks to high median incomes and low poverty and divorce rates. The report noted challenges with housing affordability and crime rates while confirming strong economic opportunities for local families.  KNSI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Allegiant Airlines announced on Sunday its plan to acquire Sun Country for $1.5 billion — ensuring continued operations at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and regular charter flights at St. Cloud's Sky Central.  WJON

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Monday morning, the USDA released crop reports showing unexpected increases in corn and soybean stocks that led to a 10-cent rise in corn prices to $4.10 per bushel and a 30-cent drop in soybean prices to $10.20 per bushel for the 2025/2026 season. Local farmers now face tighter market conditions.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sartell-St. Stephen schools will host three free Family Nights for students and families, starting with Family Math Night this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Pine Meadow Primary and Riverview Intermediate, followed by Frosty Fun on Jan. 22 at Oak Ridge Early Learning and Game and Trivia on Jan. 30 at the Middle School.  WJON
  • The Sartell-St. Stephen School District will launch a literacy outreach program for families with a child turning one, letting them redeem a postcard for a free book at Oak Ridge Early Learning Center in early February. It is funded by a $3,000 grant (pilot program) from the Morning Optimist Club.  WJON
  • St. Cloud State University announced its Husky Community Engagement Fund raised over $200,000 with a $100,000 anonymous-match to support local programs. President Gregory Tomso said the milestone shows strong community backing and welcomed additional donations.  WJON

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data shows that home sale prices in Stearns County fell to a median of $275,000 in October, down 3.8% from September (single-family homes dropped 4.8% while condominium prices rose 22%).  St. Cloud Times
