- ➤ Great River Children's Museum in downtown St. Cloud hosts MLK Family Day on Saturday (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) offering free activities like a Dream Wall Mural, scavenger hunt and snack making for families to learn and play together. WJON
- ➤ Families can take their little princesses to a magical party at Crossroads Mall on Sunday from 1:00 & 2:30 p.m. where face painting is offered and the first 48 princesses in line receive a Frozen-themed gift bag in the Target Court. WJON
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ GREAT Theatre will debut School of Rock The Musical on Friday, Jan. 23 at the Paramount Center in downtown St. Cloud; the show features youth performers playing live instruments and will run through Sunday, Feb. 8. WJON
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ In 2025, tourism in our region grew as 70% of visitors stayed overnight, spending about $139 each. Visit Greater St. Cloud plans to boost excitement in 2026 with events like robotics tournaments and art crawls – measures aimed at drawing families and local enthusiasts for a fun year ahead. WJON
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud Area School District Superintendent Dr. Laurie Putnam was named a Superintendent to Watch by the National School Public Relations Association — one of 30 nationwide for her innovative five-year leadership and community engagement. She will be formally recognized at the NSPRA 2026 National Seminar in New Orleans in July. KNSI
- ➤ At Monday’s Sauk Rapids-Rice spelling bee, 8th grader Harrison Nguyen won by correctly spelling heptathlon over 13 rounds while winners from District 742 and Sartell-St. Stephen also advanced. All district champs will compete at the Regional Spelling Bee (Feb. 12 at St. Cloud State University's Ritsche Auditorium). KNSI
- ➤ St. Cloud State University reached its $200K fundraising goal for its new Husky Community Engagement Fund by unlocking a matching donation, as community contributions met the anonymous donor's condition (Dec. 31). New president Dr. Gregory Tomso announced the achievement during his convocation and plans to invest in community programs. KNSI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce has called for better communication between federal agents and local leaders after Mayor Jake Anderson raised concerns about immigration enforcement methods. The Chamber said unclear policies are reducing workforce numbers + hurting business sales. KNSI
- ➤ The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources proposed cutting the statewide walleye catch limit from six to four fish, with the change set to take effect on March 1, 2027 if approved. Public comments on the proposal to clarify border waters regulations are accepted until 4:30 p.m. on March 5. KNSI

- ➤ Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud is offering Sprinkles, a shy one-year-old, 8-pound cat who needs a calm home; interested adopters should call 320-252-0896 or visit during business hours, as a donor has contributed $100 toward his adoption fee. WJON

- ➤ The Twins Winter Caravan returns to St. Cloud on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Kelly Inn's Sterling Catering Grand Ballroom at 6:00 p.m. The event features pitchers Justin Topa, Mick Abel and coach Latroy Hawkins, with a meal and autograph session to support local youth baseball and softball. WJON
- ➤ In boys basketball on Tuesday, Jan. 13, Cathedral beat Foley 76-43 with Dan Lee & Henry Schloe each scoring 16 points. The St. Cloud Crush girls hockey team also won 3-1, adding to a busy night for local prep sports. WJON
