COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Central Minnesota has nominated top assisted and senior living facilities, including NorBella in Rogers and Vivie Home Health Care and Hospice in Alexandria and Waite Park. Families may vote to recognize safe, caring homes for seniors (with candidates also from Minneapolis, Waite Park, and Princeton).  WJON

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Holdingford Feed Mill burned down Sunday night after flames and explosions spread throughout the building, forcing ten departments to respond and the state fire marshal to investigate the cause while no one was present.  KNSI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gail Cruikshank from Greater St. Cloud Talent and Community Impact explained that local employers use mentorship programs to build employee confidence, boost retention, and develop future leaders. She described several mentoring types (including one-on-one and reverse mentoring) during her WJON interview.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Madison Elementary will host the St. Cloud Area School District's annual Lunar New Year Celebration this Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The free event features student performances, interactive activities, a silent auction for a capstone trip and traditional Chinese food.  WJON
  • Heidi Reitmeier, a 1995 ROCORI Dollars for Scholars recipient, now manages the scholarship database and helps her daughter Allie apply this spring (continuing a family legacy of community support). The program will award over 120 scholarships to graduating seniors for post-secondary education.  KNSI
  • Central Minnesota Community Foundation established a scholarship in memory of Hallie Tobler to honor her passion for IT and kindness. A life celebration is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20 at 11:00 a.m. at The Waters Church in Sartell.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Government offices including St. Cloud administrative offices were closed for Presidents' Day on Monday, while retail stores and restaurants operated normally. Public schools, postal services (and the library) did not open, so residents needing urgent services checked local schedules.  KNSI

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local restaurants and community centers are hosting Lenten fish fries starting tomorrow, Feb. 18, through April 4. Several establishments in the region offer dine-in and take-out options for this long-standing local tradition.  WJON
  • Fish fry season returns in central Minnesota when Lent begins tomorrow, bringing community events from local restaurants and organizations. In St. Cloud, spots including Coyote Moon Grille (hosting a Friday buffet) and St. Anthony Parish (offering evening specials) will serve fish dishes during Lent.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Crush hockey team reached the state tournament for the first time in 27 years — they will face Breck tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Grand Casino Arena after winning Section 6A playoff games.  WJON
  • The St. Cloud Rox partnered with the Northwoods League Foundation to bring back the Share the Glove Youth Baseball Equipment Grant Program for 2026. Eligible nonprofit and school programs in Central Minnesota must apply by April 15 & grant recipients will be notified mid-May.  KNSI
  • Today at 5 p.m., the top-seeded Cathedral Crusaders are hosting Princeton at the MAC in Section 5A playoffs — a key game as metro teams kick off the boys hockey postseason.  WJON
