COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Benton County Fair opens Aug. 4 with a PRCA rodeo featuring bull riding, barrel racing, and bareback riding—plus a beer garden stage for after-show entertainment. Other attractions include a truck pull, tractor pull, and demo events through Sunday for family fun.  WJON
  • Stearns County Parks invites locals to join the Wildwood Ranch Snowstomp tomorrow from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Maple Syrup Sugar House, 29709 Kipper Road in St. Joseph. Participants will build snowshoe trails for the maple syrup season (refreshments and limited snowshoes provided) and should dress warmly.  KNSI

  • House of Pizza will open a new restaurant inside Coborns on Pine Cone Road in Sartell in early March. The business is hiring kitchen & service staff, management, bartenders and delivery drivers.  WJON

  • Families planning spring break can visit local zoos like the Minnesota Zoo to see baby tapirs & Como Zoo to watch Chloe the sloth; they can also enjoy family-friendly plays at venues such as the Stages Theatre Company, with some children’s museums in St. Cloud providing extra fun.  WJON

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Layoffs and a 5.4% unemployment rate have made finding work tougher in central Minnesota with job seekers now facing three to four interviews instead of one or two — Career Solutions notes the change. A job fair is set for March 10 at CareerForce in St. Cloud.  St. Cloud Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Area School Board approved 12 construction bids worth about $5.2M plus two joint purchasing contracts for field turf and athletic gear at the new Apex Athletic Center on Wednesday night. The $15M indoor facility at Apollo High School will break ground this spring and finish in April 2027.  KNSI

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Cloud doctor Dr. Morris warns residents about slippery sidewalks due to a thaw & freeze cycle and advises shuffling feet and keeping hands free to avoid falls & injuries. He says proper footwear and bending knees help maintain balance on icy surfaces.  WJON

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Voting is now open for the Best Beauty Services contest, where local salons including Reimagine Skin Spa and House Of Hair Company are nominated. Residents can cast one vote every day until Feb. 25 to support their favorites.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • Laura Zimmermann, a redshirt junior on the St. Cloud State women’s hockey team, won a bronze medal at the Winter Olympics in Italy on Thursday for Switzerland. She became only the second active player in program history to earn an Olympic medal.  WJON
  • On Sunday, the Ms. Hockey banquet will introduce a new Senior Defensemen Award to honor Minnesota’s top defensive players. Reese Ruska of St. Cloud Crush—key to the team’s first state tournament run—is one of five finalists selected by high school hockey coaches.  WJON
