COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The family of Andrew Kritzeck will hold a memorial service at St. Augustine’s Church (442 2nd St. SE) on Friday, Feb. 27. Visitation begins at 12:00 p.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. and a luncheon, with acts of kindness encouraged instead of flowers.  WJON
  • The free 59th annual Central Minnesota Farm Show opens today at River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud and runs until Wednesday. It features over 150 exhibitors and educational sessions on sustainable farming practices + scholarship winners will be announced tomorrow.  KNSI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Central Minnesota skywatchers can enjoy a planetary parade on Feb. 28 when six planets align at dusk — best viewing starts around 6:20 p.m. by looking west and southeast after sunset.  WJON
  • The Great River Children's Museum was named a finalist for the statewide ReScape Brownfield Redevelopment Awards. Housed in a former Liberty Bank building downtown — an effort built on decades of planning — the museum will be honored alongside 11 projects when winners are announced on April 23 in Minneapolis.  KNSI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Great Theatre in St. Cloud has opened registration for its 2026 Summer Camp season, offering 56 day camps for kids ages 4 through high school to learn stage skills and build confidence. Registration allows flexible pricing due to a generous grant — ensuring creative play is accessible for all.  WJON
  • St. Cloud State University will host four free personal finance classes in April covering topics from digital assets to car buying. The sessions will run on Tuesdays from 9-10 a.m. at Voyageurs South in the Atwood Memorial Center and offer breakfast + prizes with RSVP needed one week in advance.  WJON
  • Today, construction workers began building a new ambulance bay and EMT lab at Apollo High as part of major renovations funded by a grant. Upcoming projects include prep work in June and a ground breaking for the Apex Indoor Athletic Facility on Tuesday, May 5.  WJON

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Minnesota DNR started a year-round catch-and-release season for largemouth and smallmouth bass in inland waters on Monday. Anglers must release their catch until May 23 when keeping fish is allowed, as officials monitor growing bass populations.  KNSI
  • The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds anglers to remove ice houses by 11:59 p.m. on March 2 for the south, March 16 for the north, and March 31 for border waters. They advise cleaning off all materials from the ice (failure could lead to prosecution or confiscation).  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials will hold a public hearing on March 9 to consider reverting 14 and 16 McLeland Road from C5 Commercial to I3 Industrial zoning—restoring a property once used for call center operations to allow various industrial uses, including a proposed cannabis facility by Grow One, LLC pending further permits.  KNSI
  • Farmers in Minnesota can apply starting today for the Farmer Bridge Assistance program to get short-term federal relief as part of an $11 billion effort. Payments (based on 2025 planted acres) may be available as soon as Friday and applications run through April 17.  KNSI

HEALTH NEWS

  • CentraCare Heart and Vascular at St. Cloud Hospital has performed the region's first Barostim implant procedures to relieve heart failure symptoms. The milestone procedure led by Dr. John Castro adds a new minimally invasive option for eligible patients.  KNSI

SPORTS NEWS

  • At the Section 6AA tournament, the Foley Falcons qualified seven wrestlers for state. Hunter Wilhelmi won the championship + six teammates earned second‐place finishes to secure their spots.  WJON
  • St. Cloud State University Huskies hockey coach Brett Larson praised former player Matt Boldy—who scored the opening goal and added four points—in the USA men’s hockey team’s 2-1 overtime win over Canada on Sunday.  KNSI
