COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Beloved Chuck Simon, who died on Feb. 28, is honored with visitation at Westwood Church on Friday, March 6 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. & a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m., with burial following at Assumption Cemetery.  WJON
  • The final Let The Sunshine Run will take place on Saturday, April 25 at St. Boniface Church in Cold Spring; the event includes a 2.2-mile run at 9:00 a.m. and a kids’ Penguin Trot at 10:15 a.m. to honor Jonathon Robbins and promote mental health awareness.  WJON

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local entrepreneurs will pitch business ideas on March 12 at Pioneer Place in downtown St. Cloud. The Trailblazer Challenge, hosted by Greater St. Cloud and ILT Studios, will offer cash prizes up to $5,500 + a chance to enter the MN Cup.  WJON

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The MDA has launched a pilot program that pays $15 per acre to farmers who reduce nitrogen use by 15% or 30 lbs per acre with approved biofertilizer. It is for farms of 40 to 300 acres in select counties for 2026 & 2027 growing seasons, with applications due by 4:00 p.m. on May 1.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The League of Women Voters will host an informational meeting on Wednesday, Mar. 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bremer Room of Great River Regional Library — guest speakers will explain how Medicaid and SNAP cuts may affect local services.  WJON
  • The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is seeking public input on its fisheries management plans for nearly 200 lakes — including several near St. Cloud — as residents can share fishing experiences and habitat concerns before March 31.  KNSI

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Natalie is a nearly two-year-old mixed-breed dog with soulful brown eyes and a striking black and white coat at TriCounty Humane Society in St. Cloud. She is spayed, chipped, and available for adoption; call 320-252-0896 to schedule a meet-and-greet.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fox 9 anchor Courtney Godfrey, who lost her foot in a wakeboarding accident on a local lake in 2017, will serve as one of NBC's hosts for the Paralympic Winter Games in Milan and Cortina later this year.  WJON
  • The St. Cloud State men's basketball team lost the NSIC Championship game Tuesday to Minnesota-Duluth by a score of 76-65, which ended its 18-game win streak. The team now awaits Selection Sunday at 10:00 p.m. for a chance at an at-large NCAA Tournament bid.  WJON
