COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake will hold a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 9, to honor 91-year-old Douglas Goenner, a longtime farmer and community pillar who died peacefully at St. Cloud Hospital on March 4 (visitation starts one hour before service).  WJON
  • St. Cloud Area Family YMCA hosts the First Steps Baby Expo today from 8:00 a.m. to noon at its new space, offering interactive exhibits and services for expectant and new families — with kid activities, comfortable areas, and freebies— while $10 adult tickets support YMCA membership.  KNSI
  • Funeral services for longtime community member Karolyn (Kelly) Wischmann are scheduled for Saturday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Sartell, with a one-hour visitation beforehand and a private burial at North Star Cemetery in St. Cloud.  WJON

  • Five Central Minnesota entrepreneurs are semifinalists in the 2026 Trailblazer Challenge, pitching startup ideas for cash prizes up to ($5,500) next week. The free event will run on March 12 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Pioneer Place on Fifth in downtown St. Cloud.  KNSI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Cloud State University received nearly $294,000 in state grants from the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership to train 95 EssilorLuxottica employees in technical & leadership skills in St. Cloud and 50 American Solutions for Business workers in communication & digital literacy in Glenwood.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has set new fishing rules for Mille Lacs Lake open water season that let anglers keep three walleye daily. Fish must be at least 17 inches (with only one over 20 inches) and the rule runs from May 9 to November 30.  WJON
