COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Stearns County will host a public open house tomorrow from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Stearns County Service Center in Waite Park — seeking community input for a new master plan to improve Quarry Park and Nature Preserve following visitor feedback on trails, swimming quarries, and parking fees.  WJON
  • Jules’ Bistro hosts the Lift Up the Ladies campaign this March to collect loungewear and cleaning supplies for survivors at Anna Marie’s Alliance. Donors receive free food and drinks (Monday, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.) at 921 West St. Germain Street in downtown St. Cloud.  KNSI
  • St. Cloud officials ask residents & businesses to join the Adopt-a-Drain program to keep storm drains clear during spring runoff and help prevent neighborhood flooding. Volunteers clear leaves and debris as the city provides the supplies.  KNSI

  • Five local innovators—presenting ideas from drone healthcare deliveries to an electrolyte supplement for Spanish athletes—will pitch their business concepts at the 2026 Trailblazer Challenge live event on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Pioneer Place on Fifth.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Female singer/songwriter Wynonna Judd and Melissa Etheridge will perform at Ledge Amphitheater in Waite Park on Sunday, July 5. Tickets are available via a venue-only presale on March 11 (10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) and general sale on March 13 at 10:00 a.m.  KNSI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • St. Cloud State Economist King Banaian warns that gas prices could reach $4 a gallon this summer—global tensions in Iran affecting a key oil shipping lane may spur inflation and higher interest rates.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stearns County will hold a public hearing on April 7 at 6:00 p.m. at Melrose City Hall to gather residents' views on a proposed law that may let deer hunters use rifles instead of shotguns; commissioners will decide by April 21.  WJON
  • Stearns County Parks Department is accepting applications for seasonal jobs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, including roles as gatekeeper, caretaker, crew leader, and maintenance aid. Applicants must be 18 by May 1 and have relevant experience, making these positions ideal for college students, retirees, and job seekers.  KNSI
  • On Monday night the City Council unanimously approved changing the zoning of 14 and 16 McLeland Road in the industrial park near Apollo High School to I3 Planned Industrial, which could allow a closed-loop cannabis cultivation facility and lead to an $11.5 million investment.  KNSI
  • The Minnesota Department of Agriculture launched the Biofertilizer Innovation and Efficiency Pilot Program to pay Central Minnesota farmers $15 per acre for reducing synthetic fertilizer use during the growing season - applications for 2026 are open until 4:00 p.m. May 1 in counties including Benton, Sherburne and Stearns.  KNSI

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Rox Kids Club, sponsored by Skatin’ Place, gives children 12 and under a t-shirt, game tickets (June 14, June 28, and July 26) and ice cream sandwiches at the May 29 home opener at Joe Faber Field. Memberships cost $15 and can be picked up at Skatin’ Place starting April 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  WJON
  • Eight St. Cloud officials will work at state girls and boys basketball tournaments over the next couple of weeks to ensure fair play at the games. Officials from the St. Cloud Officials Association include Adam Utsch and Chris Swenson among others.  WJON
  • Senior hockey player Griffin Sturm led Cathedral to a Class A consolation title with a hat trick and received the Herb Brooks Award — he will join the Norsemen for the final month of the season with a home game Friday at Municipal Athletic Complex at 7:30 p.m.  WJON
  • The St. Cloud State Huskies baseball team lost both games at the Russ Matt Central Florida Tournament on March 7 — falling 4-0 to the Ashland Eagles and 5-3 to the California Vulcans.  WJON
