COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Catholic Charities will host the 16th Annual Pack the Porches Food Drive — aimed at easing local food insecurity — on March 27 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pioneer Place, as well as at St. Cloud Financial in Sartell and St. Cloud Hyundai in Waite Park.  WJON
  • In Quarry Park and Nature Preserve, a photo gallery shows seasonal views from snowy winters to summer swimming holes, and officials will soon install Somali and Spanish signage after an 18-year-old drowning in June.  St. Cloud Times
  • Residents can join the Sartell Lions Club's Earth Day cleanup on Saturday, Apr. 18 from 8 a.m. to noon at Riverview Intermediate School parking lot in Sartell to drop off unwanted items and hazardous materials; pickups cost $150 per load, according to spokesperson Stu Giffin.  WJON
  • Dale A. Burg, a veteran and sports enthusiast, will be honored on Friday, Mar. 20 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville as family and friends gather to celebrate his life.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Paramount Center for the Arts in St. Cloud will offer a full April program featuring GREAT Theatre’s production of Disney’s Frozen — running April 17 to May 3 — live performances by Project 37 on April 1 at 6:30 p.m. and Girl Named Tom on April 9, evening art workshops, and a juried high school exhibition on April 10.  KNSI
  • Little River Band and special guest Seals and Crofts will perform at The Ledge Amphitheater in Waite Park on Saturday, June 6. Tickets went on sale today (presale began March 12) for the show.  WJON
  • Local author Liz tells her story of loss and healing in her memoir 'Flowers Bloom Anyway' that recently reached the USA Today Bestseller List. Her book shows how journaling helped her cope with grief and raise her children (offering hope to readers facing change).  WJON
  • The Beo String Quartet will mix classical tunes and modern storytelling at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 20 at the Paramount Center for the Arts in St. Cloud. Tickets are available by calling the Paramount box office or visiting their website.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cathedral High School will host an open house on March 19 from 5-7 p.m. for prospective students in grades 6-12 to explore curriculum activities, meet faculty, and see a mini singers performance, while the school begins its search for a new principal after Kathy Crispo’s retirement.  WJON

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • St. Cloud's 14-year-old peregrine falcon is back on the improved Minnesota DNR Falcon Cam with a sharper picture + sound, showing nest-building and courtship in downtown St. Paul as she and her mate prepare to lay eggs this spring. Viewers can watch the pair incubate eggs and rear chicks in the coming weeks.  KNSI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Veteran suicides nationwide dropped in 2023, though the MDVA estimates Minnesota loses about 100 veterans each year. Local agencies are working with state and federal partners to expand mental health access and offer free crisis support for veterans and their families.  KNSI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sartell Sabres will host Fergus Falls tonight at 7 p.m. in a Section 8AAA championship game as the team rides an eight-game winning streak and hopes to secure a state tournament spot while facing the #6 seed Otters.  WJON
