- ➤ On Friday morning, three Sartell police officers answered a call from a laboring mother who needed help delivering baby Patience and safely assisted in the birth. They met the newborn on Saturday afternoon and provided a basket of baby essentials — a gesture showing the officers’ commitment to community service. KNSI
- ➤ Catholic Charities is hosting its 15th Annual Pack the Porches Food and Fund Drive this Friday to help meet growing food needs amid inflation and job losses. Volunteers will accept donations from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at three locations — Pioneer Place on 5th, St. Cloud Hyundai, and St. Cloud Financial Credit Union in Sartell — and Coborn’s will match contributions — up to $15,000 —. - ➤ A Minneapolis man became the 45th conviction in the Feeding Our Future scandal when acting U.S. Attorney Lisa Kirkpatrick announced his plea deal on Monday for falsifying meal records at a St. Paul child nutrition site and misusing funds to buy a 2022 Mini Cooper and a Brooklyn Park restaurant (Kelly’s 19th Hole) (prosecutors said his company used a random number generator to calculate ages). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Activities Directors from schools across Minnesota are gathering in St. Cloud for their annual conference at the River’s Edge Convention Center from today through Thursday—over 500 people will attend mini-sessions, roundtable talks, and a vendor show with 84 booths. St. Cloud Cathedral Activities Director Emmett Keenan said the meeting focuses on recruiting new staff and keeping current ones, and students from St. Cloud State University will learn from the vendors. - ➤ St. Cloud Technical and Community College is offering several summer camps for local students this summer, including Aviation, Culinary, Maker’s, STAR, Scrubs, Tools, Water Project and Cyclones Volleyball Camp—each with fixed dates between June and July and fees ranging from $15 to $255 with limited scholarships available. The camps will provide hands-on learning experiences designed to build skills in areas from flight and culinary arts to robotics and healthcare. WJON

- ➤ At Monday night's meeting, the council approved a $1,725,000 contract with OPN Architects to build Fire Station 6 and its training center and set plans to widen 22nd Street South with a $6.6 million project. They also approved a $5.7 million project to improve Lincoln Avenue, a $340,000 upgrade for Woodland Hills Park with a new basketball court and walking paths, and a three-year union deal that raises salaries by 3% this year and 4.75% over the next two years—measures funded by bonds and property taxes. - ➤ The Department of Natural Resources said burn restrictions are in effect in several counties including some in central Minnesota — dry conditions have raised wildfire danger. The agency will not issue permits for burning yard or brush waste and urges residents to use alternatives like composting or chipping. KNSI

- ➤ State officials confirmed that H5N1 was detected in a Stearns County dairy herd from milk surveillance samples, and the herd was put under quarantine until it passes three consecutive negative tests—pasteurized milk remains safe for public use.
