COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud is hosting a Slumber Pawty on Saturday, April 5th from 6:30 p.m. to midnight to raise funds for homeless animals—ten animal advocates in pajamas will enjoy treats, play games and share stories. The event is not open to the public but viewers can follow it from home on social media.  KNSI
  • TriCounty Humane Society in St. Cloud needs a caring family for Vinnie, a three-month-old mixed breed puppy full of energy who sometimes is mouthy + needs training to become a well-behaved pet. Locals can call 320-252-0896 or visit the shelter at 735 8th Street NE during open hours to meet him.  WJON
  • Freedom Flight, a group of veterans and patriots that uses black POW balloons to honor service members who never returned home, is holding an online auction with over 100 items including a tank drive, a balloon ride, and local restaurant certificates. The auction runs from March 28 until 9 p.m. on April 5 and a raffle, available by calling John Pearson (320-267-5588), will be drawn at 7 p.m. on April 5.  WJON

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Fire Department responded on Sunday morning to a natural gas leak at Benet Place — where a service meter on the building’s exterior was the source — at 1420 Minnesota Blvd SE and shut off the gas while Xcel Energy crews began repairs, enforcing a shelter-in-place order with no injuries reported.  St. Cloud Times

CRIME NEWS

  • A 20-year-old Morrison County man with a revoked license was arrested in Meeker County after leading a more than 30-mile high-speed chase on Monday afternoon that began near Litchfield, involved multiple pursuits through Meeker and Stearns Counties, and included an encounter in Darwin where he swerved toward an officer while he now faces charges of DUI, reckless driving, fleeing police, drug possession, and additional related offenses in McLeod County.  KNSI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Popular shows will take the stage at the Paramount Center for the Arts in downtown St. Cloud as Tonic Sol-Fa’s final concert on Tuesday night is nearly sold out and the Bellamy Brothers have a sold-out show on Thursday. Mary Poppins runs from April 11th through 27th—comedian C. Willi Myles returns on May 2nd and the new tribute band Parrothead Paradise performs on May 9th at 7:30 p.m.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • John Clark Elementary in Rockville is hosting its second annual Spring Carnival from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, where elementary students can enjoy games, face painting, and food with proceeds benefiting field trips and activity costs.  WJON
  • Sophomore Kylie Hedtke from Sartell-St. Stephen was selected to join Team Minnesota at the Miss Dance Drill Team USA national competition in California last month—she trained every Sunday—and she plans to try out again next year.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Law enforcement is cracking down on distracted driving through the end of April. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety says drivers must use hands-free cell phones while driving — texting, checking social media, or browsing the internet is illegal — and fines start at $100 for a first offense and $300 for repeats while serious incidents may lead to felony charges.  KNSI
