- ➤ Residents can join the Spay-Ghetti and No Meatballs Dinner at Sauk Rapids VFW Post 6992 on Saturday, Apr. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will serve spaghetti meals and raise funds for Tri-County Humane Society through ticket sales + an online auction and curbside pickup. WJON
- ➤ Lori Kloos, president of SCTCC, will receive the ATHENA Award for decades of community service at the Dancing With Our Stars event at the College of St. Benedict on June 8. WJON
- ➤ The Immigrant Rapid Response Fund will release its final grants round this week, awarding $12 million to 140 nonprofits statewide. Local groups in St. Cloud including Fahan Organization, Hooyo Hour Organization and OneCommunity Alliance will benefit, with $1.5 million set aside for long-term recovery. WJON
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud State University professor King Banaian explained on WJON that global oil shortages may push gas prices above $4 and raise fertilizer and clothing costs, with travel changes expected in the coming weeks. Local consumers could soon see the impact in everyday costs. WJON
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four SCTCC students won first place at the SkillsUSA Minnesota conference last month and will compete at nationals. They earned awards in Automotive Service Technology, Industrial Motor Control, and HVACR. WJON
- ➤ Two local educators, Devon Bowker from Apollo High School + Paige Janorschke from Lincoln Elementary, are among 11 finalists for Minnesota Teacher of the Year; interviews will be held on May 2 with the winner announced on May 3 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre. KNSI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, St. Cloud City Council approved two state grants totaling nearly $298,000 to combat the emerald ash borer threat by funding a firm-led tree inventory and replacing 100 dead trees at Whitney Regional Park. The grants operate on a reimbursement basis and aim to secure further funding. KNSI
- ➤ St. Cloud will end free street patio barriers this summer as restaurant and bar owners must apply for a permit to use the street for outdoor dining. City leaders will review each Community Event Permit application — ensuring parking and traffic flow near downtown businesses. WJON
- ➤ The Department of Natural Resources is accepting bear hunting license applications for fall; hunters can apply online, at any license agent, or by calling +888 665 4236+. The season runs from Sept. 1 to Oct. 18. KNSI

- ➤ CentraCare will offer free skin cancer screenings during Melanoma Monday on May 1, 4 and 5 at its Plaza Clinic Dermatology at 1900 CentraCare Circle for adults who have not seen a dermatologist in at least three years. Appointments must be set by calling 320-229-4924. WJON
- ➤ CentraCare will host the annual Earth Day Run next weekend in downtown St. Cloud, featuring a free Kids 1K on Friday, April 17 at 5:30 p.m. and a Half Marathon on Saturday, April 18, with a Health and Fitness Expo (3:00-8:00 p.m.) at River's Edge Convention Center. WJON
