COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents can bring their pets to the Tri-County Humane Society shelter for a low-cost microchip clinic on Thursday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.—the service costs $10 and no appointment is needed.  WJON
  • Joanne Kudrna — a local mentor and advocate for women and girls — is being honored with the 2025 ATHENA Award by the Women’s Fund of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation. She was recognized for her decades of community work and will be celebrated on June 9 at the College of Saint Benedict.  KNSI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The international award-winning Mill City String Quartet — joined by soprano Stacey Mastrian — will perform at the Chamber Music Society concert this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church on Cooper Avenue South. The quartet will also hold outreach concerts at Tech High School, South Junior High and the Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota and will perform at the Musical Chairs Fundraiser on Friday — which features live music, gourmet desserts and a silent auction — as part of their community events.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Barber Hussle is opening a new barber school at Crossroads Center Mall in May where 10 full-time students will join a 9-month course that teaches basic hair cutting and retail skills—key for meeting state certification. Its founder, Maurice Burson, said the program will also include advanced techniques and public haircuts along with eco-friendly hair care products.  WJON

  • At Backroad Bison, a large ranch in central Minnesota near St. Cloud, a mother bison gave birth to twins yesterday—an unusual event that signals strong herd health as the ranch shared photos on social media.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Cloud City Council delayed approving 2024 project bills after residents raised concerns about road and sewer work quality—councilmember Karen Larson said staff findings will be reviewed before the vote on April 21. Public Utilities Director Tracy Hodel noted some cracking was expected as the roads are designed to last at least ten years.  KNSI

  • The St. Cloud VA Medical Center will host Drug Takeback Day on April 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Veterans and the public will drop off unused medications in a secure drop box in Building 1—the door is nearest the two flagpoles.  KNSI
