COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Cloud River Bluffs Regional Park compost site opened Monday at 522 33rd Street South for the 2026 season; it will accept yard waste until November 21 with permits available at City Hall, online and by mail. Sauk Rapids and Sartell compost sites open April 13.  KNSI
  • St. Cloud State’s coach Mattea Voss partners with pro dancer Jeff Ringer to perform a cha cha for youth basketball scholarships at summer camps; the charity event (Monday, June 8) is scheduled at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, and further details will be posted on social media.  WJON
  • A new monument celebrating granite heritage is planned for the Cooper Avenue and 33rd Street roundabout in South St. Cloud. The city invites residents to vote on one of three proposed designs (with some safety concerns over sightlines) today.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Joel Dhein, a longtime member of the St. Cloud Area Genealogists, will present his research on Slovenian heritage at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 at the Stearns History Museum — a live Zoom broadcast is available.  St. Cloud Times
  • A St. Joseph flower farm and Sauk Rapids cooking studio will host Brunch + Blooms at Sunny Mary Meadow’s Bloom Room on April 11 and May 16. The events feature a tulip tea party, a Kentucky Derby theme, cooking demos, tastings, mocktails and bouquets, with tickets costing $95.  KNSI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln Elementary teacher Paige Janorschke is one of two local finalists for Teacher of the Year, having received nominations from colleagues & family; the selection panel will interview finalists on May 2 before announcing the winner on May 3 at the St. Paul RiverCentre.  WJON
  • A free hands-on event for rural youth to explore health careers is scheduled for April 18 at the University of Minnesota Medical School CentraCare Regional Campus in St. Cloud. Kids ages nine and older will try labs like the Cast and Splint Challenge (and more) offered by local health organizations.  KNSI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says wildfire season is underway in central Minnesota as melting snow and warming sun dry vegetation quickly. Burn restrictions are in effect in several counties, so residents should check the DNR burn map (a reliable safety tool) before any outdoor burning or campfires.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Cloud is asking residents to rank three design options for a roundabout gateway at the busy intersection of 33rd Street South, County Road 74 and Cooper Avenue. The options include an arch, two stones and three stones that reflect the area’s granite heritage.  KNSI
  • Melrose held a public hearing Tuesday at City Hall to discuss letting rifles be used for deer hunting as local numbers rise—county commissioners will vote on whether to change the current shotgun-only rule on April 21.  WJON

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Spring turkey hunting season begins next Wednesday (April 15) and runs through May 31. The DNR offers six firearm seasons along with youth and archery options, and hunters need special permits for early hunts in select wildlife management areas.  KNSI

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Minnesota State High School League and 45TV agreed on a contract extension to air state high school football, hockey and basketball tournaments through the 2030-31 school year. The deal provides exclusive broadcast rights + streaming access for local fans.  WJON
