- ➤ Paddling enthusiasts will gather today in downtown St. Cloud at Gnarly Bard Theater when Clear Waters Outfitting Company hosts a screening of award-winning films from the Paddling Film Festival, including Devin Brown's 'Mother River' and a film about a local team's Mississippi speed record set in 2023. The event begins with a social hour at 6:00 p.m.—the first film starts at 7:00 p.m. with tickets priced $20 in advance and $25 at the door. WJON
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Mary Help of Christians School in St. Augusta, which has served for 138 years, will close at the end of May because lower enrollment and rising costs have made it unsustainable—officials will help the 16 staff and 120 students move to new schools. KNSI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a Tuesday work session, officials lowered the cost of the new Stearns County Justice Center to $313 million from $320 million by adding $9.2 million for inflation, $3.5 million for demolition, and cutting about $11 million by reducing the court tower’s floors and size—saving nearly 100,000 square feet. Groundbreaking is set for spring 2026, and the county will borrow funds repaid by a 3/8-cent sales tax levy that retailers started collecting on April 1. KNSI
- ➤ The Stearns County Sheriff's Office advised high school students that playing the Senior Assassin game with water or Nerf guns can lead to safety concerns. For players, the office recommended rules — avoid trespassing, wear bright clothing, and not run if approached by officers — and urged residents to call law enforcement if they notice suspicious activity. - ➤ St. Cloud Mayor Jake Anderson announced plans to appoint Tracy Hodel as City Administrator. Hodel, who has served the city for over 24 years and currently leads public services—engineering and utilities—will soon manage day-to-day city operations. WJON
