COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Pawsitive Tales, a new animal rescue in Sartell, offers personal help for pets facing difficult medical challenges or abandonment. Founder Stephanie Otto said the donor-funded nonprofit currently fosters 14 animals and has placed seven pets this year — it will host summer events and seek more foster homes among local residents.  St. Cloud Times

CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday afternoon, just after 2:00 p.m., Waite Park police responded to gunshots on 10th Avenue North and found a home where two adults died—the police ruled 36-year-old Janet Vercruysse’s death a homicide and 29-year-old Demico Elyea-Goss’s a suicide—as two children witnessed the incident and multiple guns were recovered.  WJON
  • In Waite Park, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that 29-year-old Demico Elyea-Goss shot 36-year-old Janet Vercruysse multiple times and then took his own life when officers heard gunshots near a home; two children ran from the scene unharmed—multiple firearms were also recovered at the scene.  KNSI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The first Art Crawl of the year takes place tomorrow in downtown St. Cloud from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.—18 venues will show local art and provide QR codes for a virtual map of the stops.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Area School District will cut its budget by $485,000 for the next school year and has already reduced district office staffing + kept classroom positions intact. Superintendent Laurie Putnam said the district will use a careful plan based on the governor's funding advice + she will explain the shortfall at the first board meeting in May.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stearns County Commissioner Leigh Lenzmeier may lose his seat if a judge makes his wife’s emergency guardianship petition permanent. The petition, which will be heard next Monday, cites his long decline in mental abilities and concerns about his ability to safely serve — if the judge orders guardianship, the county board will act at their meeting on Tuesday and a special election may be scheduled in November.  KNSI

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Cathedral baseball team won 19-4 over St. Agnes at the MAC in St. Cloud, scoring 14 runs in the third inning and led by Caden Johnson with three hits and four RBIs while Nolan Bigaouette and Owen Fradette each drove in three runs. In softball, St. Cloud edged Sartell 3-2 at Sartell High School as senior Lola Jacobs pitched a complete game and both Karley Backes and Leah Imdieke recorded a hit and an RBI.  WJON
