CRIME NEWS

  • The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said a break in the nearly six-year-old missing person case of Timothy Scott Strand—who was last seen in St. Cloud on May 8th—suggests he is living in a local homeless encampment under his middle name, Scott, as investigators search for him.  KNSI
  • Twenty-five-year-old Camden Jackson pleaded guilty to felony 1st-degree robbery with a dangerous weapon for three robberies at a southside convenience store on the 700 block of 9th Avenue South in October—no one was hurt, a toy handgun was recovered, and his sentencing is set for June.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra will hold a concert this Saturday night at Ritsche Auditorium at St. Cloud State University where musical pieces from Spain and Latin America will be performed by guest artist Arriana Schwab and selected by artistic director candidate Brad Lambrecht. Lambrecht will give a pre-concert talk at 6:30 p.m. with the performance set to begin at 7:30 p.m.  WJON

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents near Riverview Intermediate School in Sartell may see smoke tomorrow morning from 9:00 a.m. until noon during a prescribed burn—an effort to promote native, pollinator-friendly plants. Superintendent Dr. Michael Rivard said Prairie Restoration Incorporated will guide the burn with strict safety measures to protect students, staff and the community.  KNSI
  • Local groups are competing from April 15th—30th to adopt storm drains that help keep our water clean and every participant gets a free reusable backpack.  City of St. Cloud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Cloud Mayor Jake Anderson will host a Town Hall meeting this Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the police station to discuss public safety, with fire, police, health and inspection officials giving brief reports on roles and statistics. Anderson said the meeting will address staffing challenges in the fire and police departments—he noted the city is about five or six officers short and plans to improve staffing.  WJON
  • St. Cloud City Council approved billing residents for 14 miles of resurfacing work done last year despite property owner concerns about early pavement cracking. City Engineer Zach Borgerding (who reviewed the work) said the reflective cracking is expected for an overlay and the $2.3M charge for sewer, street and sidewalk projects will begin in 2026.  KNSI
  • Tracy Hodel was unanimously confirmed as St. Cloud's new city administrator after Mayor Jake Anderson chose her during Monday's council meeting. She will start on May 12th—overseeing daily operations and working with the city staff.  KNSI

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • St. Cloud area nonprofits plan a housing summit on Tuesday, April 29th at St. Cloud State University from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.—the event will bring together city officials, builders, and housing agencies to find solutions for affordable housing in central Minnesota.  KNSI
  • Tonight Cold Spring city council will vote on the final plat for Spartan Fields, a housing development that will add 62 single-family lots and 45 twin homes— the project will be built in three to four phases with ground breaking planned in a few weeks.  WJON
