COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tomorrow, the Boys + Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota will hold their Spring Showcase at the Paramount Center for the Arts, where club members from Roosevelt, Southside and Eastside will perform dances, skits and theater pieces. An art exhibit will be on display from tomorrow until May 26 and the event starts with an art reception at 6:00 p.m. followed by the on-stage showcase at 7:00 p.m.  WJON

BUSINESS NEWS

  • O'Brien's Dry Goods, a new vintage and antique store, will open Wednesday in downtown St. Cloud and will offer vintage clothing, records, collectibles and local school memorabilia from a restored historic building. The shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday — a grand opening is planned for late May or early June after a soft opening with free coffee and treats.  St. Cloud Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Paramount Center for the Arts has arranged a busy summer schedule that starts on June 16th with Indiana Jones, continues with films like Moana on July 22nd and Jumanji on August 14th, and features live concerts such as Magic Carpet Ride on June 17th and a School of Rock camp ending on August 7th. Local art exhibits from community groups also are set to open soon — adding creative opportunities for visitors.  KNSI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Cloud District 742 is setting timelines for two Apollo High School projects after voters approved referendums for a $50 million renovation and a $15 million athletic facility — Superintendent Laurie Putnam said planning meetings with staff, police, and the community have begun to set schedules. Construction for the athletic facility is expected to start this fall or winter — further details will be released in the coming weeks.  WJON
  • District 742 will host the Shining Stars Community Celebration on May 17th at Apollo High School to honor school achievements and Dr. Laurie Putnam’s recognition as Superintendent of the Year. The event will also thank the community for approving the Apollo referendum on April 8th—62.15 percent voting for a $65 million upgrade plan.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Benton County received a $1-million grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development to fund its Beltline Corridor Project — a plan that will move two Xcel Energy transmission poles to connect Highway 10 with Highway 23 — and the project will link Sartell and Sauk Rapids to the St. Cloud Regional Airport.  WJON
  • Traffic signal work began this week on University Drive from Cooper Avenue to Kilian Boulevard as signals operate in flash mode, and drivers are warned to allow extra travel time — the city will install flashing yellow arrows to improve left turn safety.  KNSI
