COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Crews demolished the fire-damaged building at the corner of East St. Germain Street and Wilson Avenue, clearing the way for future redevelopment. Traffic lanes were narrowed Tuesday—drivers were asked to use extra caution in the work zone.  WJON
  • A mock crash drill is happening today at Apollo High School from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. to train emergency responders on handling impaired and distracted driving incidents; drivers and neighbors should expect extra police + fire services nearby.  KNSI
  • Pregnancy Resource Center hosts its annual Let Your Life Shine…Walk for Life on Saturday at Sartell Community Center to fund a new Little Falls location. Check-in is at 9:00 a.m. with a 10:00 a.m. start and activities including a band, face painting, and Chick-fil-A lunch (registration is $15).  KNSI
  • Carlos the Cat, a healthy one-year-old domestic shorthair enjoying chin rubs and freeze-dried treats, is ready for adoption at the TriCounty Humane Society in St. Cloud — call 320-252-0896 to visit during business hours.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gnarly Bard Theater in downtown St. Cloud is presenting the one-act musical 'Who Wants To Marry A Prince'—a spoof mixing Disney princess tales and reality TV—over two weekends in May. Tickets are nearly sold out for May 8-10, with more available for May 15-17 performances.  WJON
  • Sauk Rapids-Rice High School will perform The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet at its Performing Arts Center on Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday at 1 and 5 p.m. The playful twist on Shakespeare is open to the public with enthusiastic student participation.  WJON
  • Fergus Falls native Chris Tungseth advanced to the final three on American Idol last night by performing Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish songs, impressing fans and Ryan Seacrest (who recalled his football days). The show airs Monday nights on ABC.  WJON
  • A new book, Images of America: St. Cloud, captures the city's past and will release Tuesday, May 5, with a launch party at the Stearns History Museum on Thursday, May 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (refreshments and a signing included).  WJON
  • A free concert to benefit youth music comes to Sartell on Saturday, May 9. International pianist Donna Stoering, violist Erin Nolan, and former CMYO member Arriana Schwab will perform at First United Methodist Church (donations welcomed) to support local music education.  WJON

ECONOMY NEWS

  • According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Minnesota’s average fuel price rose from $3.66 to $3.75 per gallon over the past month as traders reacted to Iran conflict + seasonal demand; analysts expect another 20 to 30 cents increase in the coming weeks.  St. Cloud Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • District 742 will upgrade Talahi Elementary with roof repairs and HVAC work this summer + Discovery, Madison, Lincoln, and other schools will also receive essential maintenance including flooring updates and restroom improvements to keep facilities in top shape.  WJON

  • SCSU hosted its first athletic achievement awards at the Senior Send-Off, honoring top student-athletes like Coach Quincy Henderson (NSIC Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year) and Husky of the Year Claire Salzer for record-setting wins and leadership in sports.  WJON
