- ➤ Abbey Graves, a former radio DJ turned podcast producer, is one of six community dancers in this year’s Women’s Fund Presents Dancing With Our Stars event—she will perform a hip-hop routine with professional dancer David Le to raise funds for the INDY Foundation that supports people battling cancer and has a live show on June 9 at the College of St. Benedict. - ➤ City crews will close 5th Avenue South—between West St. Germain Street and 1st Street South—from 6:00 a.m. to noon today to install temporary dividers so local restaurants like 7 West Taphouse and Pioneer Place on 5th can set up outdoor patios. Crews will work downtown later in the week to support outdoor dining—an effort driven by weekend highs near 80 degrees—and help local bars prepare for summer. KNSI
- ➤ Local farmers markets in the St. Cloud area will open soon as the St. Cloud Area Farmers Market starts May 3 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Lady Slipper parking lot — while markets in Sauk Rapids, St. Joseph, Popple Creek, Sartell and Cold Spring will begin on various dates through the season, offering local produce, baked goods and artisanal items. - ➤ A property owner on Saturday called SCPD after finding skeletal remains near the 250th block of County Road 74 (close to Interstate 94) in an area where 22-year-old Shannah Marie Boiteau was last seen nine years ago, and the Midwest Medical Examiners’ Office confirmed her identity on Monday (the case remains under investigation). - ➤ This weekend+ a unique play called 'Elegy of a Green Beret' will be shown at Pioneer Place On Fifth in downtown St. Cloud at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The play, written by Scott Mann and performed by combat veterans and military family members, shows a soldier's struggle to adjust to civilian life and offers veteran ticket discounts with all proceeds going to support groups. - ➤ Lily Gardner, a high school senior from Paynesville, has been chosen for the Honors Performance Series Program to sing with 200 students at the Sydney Opera House. She will travel to Australia in July and rehearse three hours a day for about one week before the concert. WJON
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of St. Cloud will host a swearing-in ceremony for new city administrator Tracy Hodel on May 12th at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall — Mayor Jake Anderson will administer the oath as Hodel takes charge of city operations and public works. Hodel previously led a public works department of 135 staff that earned national recognition for its innovative work in wastewater treatment. KNSI
- ➤ The Minnesota DNR offers regional fishing outlooks on its website to help anglers prepare for the upcoming Minnesota Fishing Opener—reports show strong walleye year classes, offer advice on bluegills and crappies, and note that the catch-and-release bass season starts on May 10.
