COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Area Farmers Market opens this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Lady Slipper Lot and features between 25 and 30 vendors selling local baked goods, meats, and eggs (select Saturdays bring special activities with the Great River's Children's Museum). It accepts cash and cards.  WJON
  • Nine Explorer Post members won first in the Domestic Assault scenario at the 51st Annual Minnesota Explorer Conference (in Rochester) and competed in 13 challenges that highlight the practical training provided by their law enforcement program for young adults.  KNSI
  • Americans for Democracy in St. Cloud is organizing a May Day Strong day of action tomorrow — a sign-making session runs from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the library, a rally from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and a barbecue kicks off at Wilson Park at 5:00 p.m.  KNSI

CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend, St. Cloud offers family-friendly events including Free Comic Book Day at Granite City Comics (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and the 3rd Annual Collectormania at Eagles Club (12:00 to 5:00 p.m.); residents can also join a pendant-making workshop at Rock and Art Shop (11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)  WJON
  • On April 28, 2026, Granite Partners hosted the 5 Under 40 event to honor winners including Anna Gruber, Megan Pflipson, Cody Hauser, Ashley Green and Jake Krippner, with Jenny Paulsrud (last year’s winner) serving as emcee.  St. Cloud Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Princeton teacher Michelle Hallbeck is nominated for America’s Favorite Teacher and may win $25,000, a Hawaii trip, and a school visit from Bill Nye (the science icon). She has taught for 31 years and plans to use the prize for a family vacation and classroom supplies.  WJON
  • Eric Olson returns as interim principal at Pleasantview Elementary effective July 1. Olson brings extensive local education experience from Monticello School District—where he has served as superintendent and teacher—and will retire later this summer.  WJON
  • Cathedral High is celebrating 22 seniors who will start college sports this fall + 24% of the class will compete at college level, well above the national average of about 6%.  WJON
  • St. Cloud State University has received nearly $290,000 in state grants to train workers for EssilorLuxottica's local expansion (240-hour course) and for a digital skills program (22-hour course) with American Solutions for Business as part of the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership.  KNSI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Acadia, a 13-year-old peregrine falcon, laid five eggs in her nest — a rare event for a Midwestern falcon. Incubation began on April 26 and the eggs will likely hatch between May 29 and May 31.  WJON

HEALTH NEWS

  • A recent WalletHub study ranked our state seventh for nurses because of competitive salaries (over $98,000 on average) and supportive work conditions that attract dedicated health care professionals.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Rox announced a summer schedule at Joe Faber Field with family-friendly promotions and giveaways. Among the events are Brian Harper autograph sessions and fireworks on May 29, a piggy bank giveaway on May 30, and a Bark in the Park game on Aug. 3.  WJON
  • On April 28, regional high school baseball games saw standout on-mound and at-plate performances — including a tight 5 to 4 win for Sartell over St. Cloud. Teams competed in close matchups while players delivered key hits and strong pitching in fast-paced contests.  WJON
