COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Former Press Bar employees will gather at the Red Carpet Night Club on Saturday night to share memories and enjoy live music—organizer Izzy Presley, who worked at the Press for over five years, said performances by ACK! A Tribute to Ace Frehley at 8:30 p.m., along with shows by Slow Children and a short set from Passion, will honor their past. The reunion will offer a chance for former staff to relive the good times at a venue that once held local significance.  WJON

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce is honoring Modern Barnyard co-owners Jim Beck and John Malikowski with the Entrepreneurial Success Award at today's Business Awards Luncheon at the Park Event Center — the store, opened in 2017, has doubled its size and attracts customers from far away.  WJON

CRIME NEWS

  • Devon Fullerton, a 23-year-old tenant at Lincoln Center on 630 Lincoln Avenue Southeast, was charged with first-degree arson and criminal damage after he set fire to his room on April 11th—witnesses reported he used WD-40 and a sledgehammer to ignite clothing and the wall.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Historic Design Consulting LLC's Mark Johnston—an experienced painter—will teach a hands-on exterior painting workshop on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Stearns History Museum at 513 7th Avenue South; registration costs $75, snacks are provided, and class size is limited.  WJON
  • St. Cloud Christian School has updated its plan to renovate and move into a new building in Waite Park by remodeling the old Crafts Direct/Back Shed Brewing building in July, with work expected to finish by late next spring for a 2026—2027 opening. The new campus will have double the classrooms—plus a full-size gymnasium, multi-purpose event space, and extra green space to serve over 500 students.  WJON

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, the Minnesota House passed the Environment and Natural Resources budget bill (126-5 vote) that cuts $10 million from programs but still funds efforts to protect air, land, and water. Lawmakers did not include changes to ease limits on PFAS chemicals (keeping clean water protections in place).  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stearns County Board of Commissioners set the special election date to replace retired Commissioner Leigh Lenzmeier from District 4 during its Tuesday meeting. The board said if only two candidates run the general election will be on the second Tuesday in August—if more candidates enter, a primary will happen in August with the general in November.  KNSI
  • The St. Cloud City Council voted Monday night to approve three land use changes that will convert the SCSU Welcome Center into 16 studio apartments, rezone two lots on McLeland Road for an entertainment center, and allow a tobacco shop in the former Tim Horton’s building — the proposals received no opposition during public hearings. Council President Mike Conway said the moves align with the city’s plans to spur economic development — the changes are expected to provide essential housing and family-friendly entertainment options.  KNSI
