COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Downtown Alliance announced its Block by Block Ambassadors Program that will start May 27—trained ambassadors in bright green will clean sidewalks and streets, offer directions, and support local businesses. The program will soon hire an operations manager to strengthen downtown connections.  KNSI
  • The new St. Cloud-based nonprofit TriUnity Foundation held board elections and set its 18-month goals to expand partnerships and strengthen the credit union movement while planning to grant $10M over the next 10 years to help families facing terminal illness. Board Chair LeAnn Case said the foundation is building a team to support its long-term vision.  WJON
  • The U.S. Postal Service will continue its normal deliveries + make special pickups this Saturday as part of the 33rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Residents should leave a bag of nonperishable food by their mailbox for carriers to deliver to Catholic Charities Emergency Food Services Food Shelf + Salvation Army Food Shelf in St. Cloud.  WJON
  • Benton County officials and outreach workers said about 450 to 500 homeless people live in the St. Cloud area, shifting from winter shelters to spring encampments because of limited service space and changed rules. They added that more boarding houses could help build a stable shelter for those in need—though the city has limited plans for further boarding houses.  WJON
  • Eunice Adjei, director for multi-cultural services at St. Cloud Financial Credit Union and board chair of the Regional Human Rights Commission, will dance in the Women's Fund Presents Dancing With Our Stars Live event a month away to raise funds for the Tri-Unity Foundation that helps pay for terminal illness costs. She will hold a public fundraiser on June 7 and the live event will take place on Monday, June 9 at the College of St. Benedict (her dance partner is Nick Benner).  WJON

BUSINESS NEWS

  • St. Cloud Toyota acquired Bee Line Yamaha & Suzuki SportsCenter and Bee Line Auto Service in St. Joseph on May 1, renaming it Bee Line Auto and Sport. They kept all eight employees while planning to hire more to double staff and expand inventory with new Yamaha products, lawn mowers, trailers and other items.  St. Cloud Times
  • Two law firms from the local area merged on May 1 to form Revermann Lund Ross and expand their business law and real estate services with nine employees spread across offices in Waite Park and Melrose. The firm said it will offer a friendlier legal experience and serve central Minnesota including Benton, Stearns, Sherburne and Wright counties.  St. Cloud Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Waite Park Police reported a storage unit theft on the 500 block of 10th Avenue South in which speakers and other items were taken—police said suspects were cutting off the locks and similar incidents have been reported across local communities.  WJON

  • The Weekender outlines a busy summer weekend with local and statewide events planned for families and festival fans. St. Cloud will host free airplane rides at the regional airport on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon and a food truck festival beginning at 11:00 a.m.—other events include a Friday palm reading and a movie marathon alongside Minneapolis festivals.  WJON
