Good morning, St. Cloud.

St. Cloud Diocese leaders celebrated Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost's election as Pope Leo XIV—making him the first U.S.-born pope and a leader known for his quiet focus on unity—and noted he will officiate his first Mass today at 11 a.m. in the Sistine Chapel.

Today, St. Cloud introduced a program to replace lead or galvanized drinking water service lines, and property owners in affected neighborhoods may be contacted by the City if they are eligible for a funded replacement or need emergency repairs—official work will be scheduled and all workers will carry proper identification. The City advises residents not to share personal or financial information with anyone who contacts them unexpectedly about the work.

Tracy Hodel, a city veteran for 24 years, will begin her tenure as City Administrator this Monday — tasked with overseeing services, budgets, and personnel — after rising through roles from wastewater treatment to public services.

She will advise the mayor and City Council on key projects and tackle challenges like housing shortages and infrastructure improvements.

Design work is underway on the new Stearns County Jail and Justice Center.

Commissioners reviewed a new plan that cuts one court level (saving 27,501 square feet and $11 million), bids will be approved in August, and groundbreaking is planned for next spring with work set to finish by 2029.

St. Cloud’s annual Strides for Stroke Walk will take place May 17 at CentraCare Plaza as part of National Stroke Awareness Month.

CentraCare and the Minnesota Stroke Association are working to boost participation and support stroke survivors—and care partners who need encouragement after lower turnout last year.
