- ➤ Fast-moving flames from discarded ash from a wood boiler destroyed a camper and an ice fishing house in Collegeville Sunday morning as firefighters fought the blaze amid high winds and dry conditions — they kept the flames from reaching a nearby shop and no one was injured. KNSI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Forty-six-year-old Kyeon Hill of St. Cloud was shot in the shoulder by Officer Virgilia Schreiner last Friday when he stabbed her arm with a pocket knife and fled the scene, and he was arrested after a brief foot chase — he was treated at St. Cloud Hospital and booked into Stearns County Jail. - ➤ The City of St. Cloud asked residents to conserve water on May 13 while crews worked at the Calvary Hill Booster Station to improve system capacity for everyday use and fire suppression — residents were advised to water lawns ahead of time, turn off taps during tasks, and avoid heavy water use until the work was complete. - ➤ Stearns County offers 10 grants of $10K each and low-interest loans for septic system repairs to homeowners with failing systems. Eligible applicants must own and live on the property and have incomes of $78,250 or less for small households or $103,300 or less for larger ones — the grants cover design, permitting, and installation while the loans at 3% interest must be repaid over 7 years. - ➤ Stearns County leaders warn that state budget proposals could shift $9.2 million to $11.6 million of costs to the county — which may cause a 9.5% to 11.9% rise in property taxes — if lawmakers do not adjust the plans.
