COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tri-County Humane Society is hosting a series of low-cost microchip clinics through September to help pet owners update their pets’ permanent identification. The first clinic is Tuesday, May 19 at St. Cloud City Hall (2:30 to 5:30 p.m.) with more sessions planned in June, July, August, and September.  KNSI
  • This weekend, St. Cloud will honor Armed Forces Day with community events including Restaurant Week specials, a craft market at Crossroads Center, a Symphony Gala at River’s Edge Convention Center, a Wine Run 5K in Kimball, a plant swap meet, and Como Town opening for summer fun.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Early bird tickets for the annual Flannel Fest in Waite Park go on sale Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m. Attendees aged 21+ can enjoy three live bands, local breweries, vendors, and food trucks at the event on Oct. 3 from 3 to 7 p.m.  WJON
  • Grammy-nominated singer Mario will perform at Grand Casino Mille Lacs on Saturday, May 23rd at 7 p.m.—tickets are $40 and winners can be chosen from a contest on The River from May 15th-17th.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Cloud Area Schools will receive part of a $1.5 million grant from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry’s Youth Skills Training program to boost job training for high school students. The funding will support 11 new and 6 returning partnerships among 17 institutions in the region.  WJON
  • Waite Park Police is hosting a Home Alone Safety Class for children ages nine to 12 on Tuesday, June 23 (10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) at the Community Park Pavilion. The $20 fee covers lunch, snacks, and supplies while space is limited to 20 students.  KNSI
  • Saint John's Prep in Collegeville raised over $15 million through its record-breaking campaign to upgrade facilities and bolster faculty support — including a renewed soccer field and a new theatre director position. More than 140 local donors contributed to the school's most successful effort in nearly 170 years.  WJON

  • Bris Lodge is hosting a Hope and Healing Retreat at Camp Courage in Maple Lake for those coping with grief. The event offers guided healing activities and reflection on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30 along with an overnight option that includes dinner and lodging.  WJON

  • Never Enough Protein offers a meaty mix for Restaurant Week in St. Cloud today—pizza, burgers, brisket and healthier protein bowls available at venues including Skatin’ Place, House of Pizza and Grizzly’s Smoke and Fire, where a wood-fired rib platter is on sale for $46.99.  KNSI

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Planning Commission approved a new affordable housing project that will build (40) apartment units near St. Anthony's Catholic Church, offering support for residents facing homelessness and related challenges; the plan now awaits a public hearing before the City Council.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local high school baseball games this week brought plenty of cheers as the Sartell Sabres recorded a 10-0 shutout over Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm and Staples-Motley Cardinals posted a 9-0 win. Several teams showcased strong pitching and timely hitting in contests on May 11-12.  WJON
  • Vikings stars Adrian Peterson, Daunte Culpepper, Tommy Kramer and others will meet fans for autographs at the Ultimate Sports Bar & Grill in Waite Park (7 to 9 p.m.) Friday, June 12.  WJON
