COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday, May 17, Charlie’s Corner held a ribbon-cutting at the Omni Training Facility to honor Charlie’s legacy with food trucks, games, and adoptable dogs from Ruff Start Rescue. Attendees enjoyed dunk tank contests and bags games as the community gathered to celebrate a local hero.  WJON
  • Fifth Avenue South in St. Cloud is set for a $6.8 million makeover — adding new bike lanes and safety lighting that will connect the university to downtown. City officials said planning has begun and work will start next year.  WJON
  • City leaders will turn 5th Avenue North on the Mississippi into a river walk funded by $3 million from the state and an equal city match. The project will likely start next year and take two seasons to complete from Butler Park to south of the hospital.  WJON
  • Eleven beagles rescued from a Wisconsin facility are resting at Tri-County Humane Society as they adjust to life outside a stressful home, and staff ask that donations support their medical care + rehabilitation while a special adoption process is developed.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nine-year-old Owen Bohn-Gettler will launch his comic 'Team Stuff: The Miserable Madness of the Mill Monster' on May 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Sartell Community Center Library, where he will autograph copies + display his draft work.  WJON
  • Dan + Shay will perform on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Mystic Lake Amphitheater as part of The Young Tour featuring Tyler Hubbard and Josh Ross. Presale tickets begin today at 10 a.m., with Live Nation presale on May 20 and general sales on May 22.  WJON
  • Four local women (Morgan Morrow, Isabella Schiffler, Jaiden Smith, Daisy Zimmermann) are among ten finalists for the 73rd Princess Kay of the Milky Way after competing at a May Leadership Event at the Delta Hotel in Minneapolis; the title winner will be named on Aug. 26.  KNSI
  • The Stearns County History Museum will host Hops and History at Pantown Brewing Company this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. — Mary Bruno will share her journey in printing to celebrate women’s impact in the craft with a $10 suggested donation.  WJON

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Part-time jobs in St. Cloud help build skills and connections, explained Gail Cruikshank (Talent and Community Impact Director at Greater St. Cloud). She noted that side hustles can open new career paths as local job openings were last counted at 1,008.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Cloud City Council approved granite monuments for two roundabouts—one at 33rd Street South and County Road 74 and one at 33rd Street South and Cooper Avenue—on Tuesday after a 6-1 vote. The monuments will use local granite remnants to honor the city’s heritage and are expected to be installed by the end of summer.  KNSI

HEALTH NEWS

  • With warmer weather bringing more motorcycles onto local roads, Tri County Crime Stoppers advises riders to obey lane-splitting laws and avoid weaving in traffic plus urges motorists to adjust driving for increased safety.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • Over May 16 and May 17, local baseball teams played competitive games as the St. Joseph Joes edged the Clearwater River Cats 9-8 — standout hits and pitching helped secure wins and boost weekend excitement. Other matchups produced high scores with players making key contributions in each contest.  WJON
  • At the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament from May 15-16, local teams faced high-scoring games with standout home runs and pitching, including St. Cloud Tech Cyclones who secured an 18-17 win before falling 18-11 in the championship to the Alexandria Legends.  WJON
