BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Arctic Cat's St. Cloud facility will restart making snowmobiles, ATVs, and side-by-sides later this summer under new ownership (led by Brad Darling) that brings nearly 500 employees back to work at the St. Cloud and Thief River Falls sites. The company also plans to add more workers (pending a review of business needs) as production resumes after a pause last year. St. Cloud Times
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Becker man, Jonathan Schafer, was charged with a felony for not remaining at the scene and for driving under the influence after 23-year-old Julia Marthaler jumped from his vehicle and died on May 15 plus investigators continue to review the case for potential additional charges. WJON
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Kornel Thomas became the new Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra on May 15—succeeding Hisham Bravo Groover— and will lead upcoming rehearsals and concerts including the Lemonade Arts Fair. WJON
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Minnesota Medical School CentraCare Regional Campus in St. Cloud selected its first class of 24 students who are committed to serving rural communities. The new campus will open on August 18—adding 24 students a year until reaching 96 in 2028—to help address rural doctor shortages. KNSI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Minnesota law enforcement is running its annual Click It or Ticket campaign until June 1 to remind drivers to buckle up as summer driving season nears. In 2024, 476 traffic fatalities occurred—106 of them among unbelted riders—and the campaign reinforces seatbelt and child booster seat rules. KNSI
- ➤ Traffic on Veterans Drive in St. Cloud will face lane shifts starting Tuesday, May 27 as utility improvements reduce lanes to a single direction—access to some westbound intersections may close intermittently. The work is projected to finish in mid-June depending on the weather. WJON
- ➤ Crews in St. Cloud will begin work today on Veterans Drive by reducing the road to one lane in each direction—covering lanes between 27th and 29th Avenues— to allow for utility repairs. The work is weather-dependent and is expected to last until mid-June, so drivers should follow all posted signs. KNSI
- ➤ The St. Cloud Police Department scheduled its annual community policing review for Thursday, June 5th from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at police headquarters—participants will have a 50-minute Q&A session and a brief presentation on the agreement’s history and current guidelines. KNSI

- ➤ Walkers in St. Cloud, Duluth, and the Twin Cities raised $16,000 for stroke survivors and their families during Saturday’s Strides for Stroke events—over $3,300 was donated in the final 24 hours. The CentraCare Plaza event in St. Cloud, sponsored by the Minnesota Stroke Association, supports programs for stroke education and caregiver outreach. KNSI
