COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Cloud’s six splash pads are now open for summer fun at parks like Centennial, Haws, Lake George, Riverside, 10/10 and Westwood, with most operating daily (9 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and some having adjusted hours.  WJON
  • The city approved the Rainbow Bridge Memorial Garden at Heritage Park, set to include a new bridge for pet memorials where grieving owners can hang belongings. Construction will begin early in June as artists paint a rainbow design while fundraisers aim to raise $35,000 for the space.  WJON
  • Jason Hivala, a Metro Bus driver from St. Cloud, clinched first place in the large bus division at the National Community Transportation Roadeo held earlier this month in Omaha among 51 drivers.  WJON
  • Granite City Days will feature a water ski show on the Mississippi River this June 27 with two 45-minute performances at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. along the Wilson Park dog park area — spectators should bring lawn chairs for front-row viewing.  WJON

BUSINESS NEWS

  • LeeAnn's Main Street Diner is now open at 405 Main Street in Rice, replacing the Old Creamery Cafe. The diner offers breakfast until 10:30 a.m. and lunch until 2:30 p.m. daily and plans to continue the summer craft show tradition with catering services.  WJON

ECONOMY NEWS

  • High gas prices above $4 per gallon are forcing many local families to reconsider their summer trips to the lake and cabin as towing boats and longer drives cost more. Some are changing their travel habits (including cutting back on weekly trips) to manage rising fuel expenses.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees has approved a 6.25% tuition increase for 2027, raising costs by about $357 at community colleges like St. Cloud Technical and Community College and $578 for state universities such as St. Cloud State University.  WJON
  • Sartell High School introduced a sculpture class (using packing tape) that created life-sized figures with personal messages displayed in April and early May. Underclassmen are encouraged to enroll in this creative art elective.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on I-94 between Sauk Centre and Melrose face delays starting Tuesday, May 26 when MnDOT shifts traffic into single-lane head-to-head configuration at four bridges east of Highway 71 and Highway 13, reducing speeds to 60 mph. The work will continue through late October.  KNSI
  • The Sartell Public Safety Department recognized Officer Taylor Bartlett, Captain Kelly Mader, and Investigator Brennan Olson for their 2025 awards. Bartlett earned the Officer of the Year Award, Mader garnered the Leadership Award, and Olson received the Meritorious Service Award + for his role on the Human Trafficking Task Force.  KNSI
  • Sargent Jesse Grabow from Minnesota State Patrol issued key tips for drivers as Memorial Day weekend approaches, urging motorists to avoid impaired driving, distractions (including phone use), and to follow road signs at construction zones in St. Cloud. The state patrol plans extra enforcement to keep roads safe.  WJON

  • Many Minnesotans enjoy small luxuries that brighten long winters by choosing drive-thru coffee, lake cabin weekends, premium concert seats, quality meats for grilling, and even hiring snow removal services.  WJON
