COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Central Minnesota residents can enter the Dream Getaway contest by collecting codes aired three times daily from June 1 through June 18 on a local radio station. A bonus code is available through the station app (encouraging extra entries), and the winner will be announced on Friday, June 19.  WJON
  • A celebration of life for Irma Lanier will be held on June 13 at 1:00 p.m. at 1024 Hamlet Dr. South in Avon, where family & friends gather to honor her legacy.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Denny Smith, a former teacher and coach from Morton, shares his inspiring journey from local classrooms to motivational speaking during his appearance on WJON's My Life Series. His new book *How to be a Class Act* underscores his commitment to education, youth work, and family values.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Cloud Community Education’s summer booklet offers arts, cooking, and financial workshops plus a beginner Dungeons and Dragons series at Tech High School from June 9 to June 30 and July 21 to August 18. Get a copy at Quarryview Education Center (or register online) to sign up.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close access to Highway 27 near Onamia starting Monday to build a roundabout at its intersection with Highway 169, detouring drivers via Mille Lacs County Road 23 and lasting three months. Drivers should expect lane shifts and narrow lanes (all part of safety improvements).  WJON
  • The city council will hold a public hearing Monday at 6:00 p.m. at city hall to review Duluth-based Center City Housing's proposal for Elm Ridge Apartments, a 40-unit supportive housing complex planned behind Walgreens and across from Central Minnesota Montessori School. Comments from supporters and neighbors have been received.  KNSI

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Homes in St. Cloud sell in about two months while new builds are appearing in nearby communities like Sartell and Sauk Rapids, and lake properties remain popular. Craig Ehrlichman of Premier Real Estate Services said sellers receive around 97% of their asking price as home values rise 3-5%.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Rox swept the Badlands Big Sticks 6-3 in Dickinson on Thursday to boost their record to 3-1 before their home opener with the Bismarck Larks, held on Friday at Joe Faber Field—featuring former Twin Brian Harper throwing the ceremonial pitch and a post-game fireworks show.  WJON
  • The Cathedral Crusaders beat Kimball 11-2 on Thursday in Waite Park and earned a spot in the Class AA State Softball Tournament for a third straight season. The team now hopes to repeat as state champions.  WJON
  • On May 28, local ball games saw the Cold Spring Springers defeat the Albertville Anglers 5-3 while the Moorhead Brewers shut out the Sabin Mets 13-0, and other contests featured close scores among teams in St. Joseph, Luxemburg, Monticello, Hamel, Sartell and Morse Lake.  WJON
