COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 59th Annual Waite Park Family Fun Fest began on Monday with a medallion hunt where clues were posted at 8:20 a.m. on the festival’s Facebook page and on 99.9 Lite FM—families can win a $250 Visa gift card awarded at the Community Park on Friday at 5:30. Other events include Kids’ Day on Wednesday and a Grand Parade on Thursday as the celebration concludes on Friday.  KNSI
  • A free event to honor our first responders will be held this Thursday at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Sauk Rapids—featuring K9 demonstrations, law enforcement displays, a Life Link helicopter landing, axe throwing and free food. Donations collected at the event will go to the Public Safety Foundation of St. Cloud—supporting local public safety programs.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Minnesota Quilt Show will take over the Rivers Edge Convention Center from June 19th to June 21st, featuring 800 quilts, classes, lectures, and 100 vendors. The event is expected to draw 4,000 to 5,000 visitors — boosting local business — and will offer a $30,000 prize pool with tickets priced at $15 for adults, $5 for teens and free for children 12 and under.  WJON
  • Fans braved chilly conditions at Waite Park's Ledge Amphitheater on Sunday when Alison Krauss and Union Station began their set at 8:30 p.m. as light rain started around 9:10 p.m.—audiences bundled up with hoodies and blankets to enjoy songs like 'Looks Like the End of the Road.'  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the Great River Children's Museum opens in a building that once housed a chicken hatchery and bank, featuring eight permanent exhibits and a 1,500 square foot interactive area that tells its unique history—hiding a nod to Jack Frost Hatchery in its displays. The museum also offers a Museums for All program with a $25,000 match from Stearns Bank to help families and field trip groups access its play and learning opportunities.  KNSI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Professional disc golf players will join Clearwater from Friday to Sunday for the Preserve Championship, a high-profile event where many will camp on the property to enjoy the river and ponds. Charles Hutchinson, owner of the Preserve, said the event will feature ample parking, a family zone with the World’s Largest Rubber Duck — a central attraction — a vendor village and a beer market.  KNSI
