CULTURE NEWS

  • The Paramount Center for the Arts announced the 2025 Season Kick-Off Mixtap Magic in St. Cloud for this fall, a fundraiser event featuring 80s bands like A Flock of Seagulls, Naked Eyes and Tommy Tutone. The party will start at 5:30 p.m. outdoors with street performers — and will move indoors at 7:30 p.m. for the concert.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local leaders in St. Cloud are partnering with schools and local employers to help students explore careers through internships, job shadowing, and in-class industry talks—efforts designed to boost local workforce retention. The initiative aims to clear up myths about local colleges while creating hands-on experiences that guide students toward staying in town after graduation.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Speaker Lisa Demuth from Cold Spring reflected on her long-standing collaboration with former Speaker Melissa Hortman, noting that Hortman held weekly meetings since 2023 to protect her staff during a tight legislative session—Demuth said law enforcement promptly updated legislators after a Saturday shooting. She extended her condolences to those affected and stressed that the safety of elected leaders must be a top priority.  WJON

  • A new multiuse development called Vue Pointe Apartments has started construction at 1st Street South in Waite Park—next to Woods Farmer Seed Nursery—to offer 48 housing units for workforce families. The project, costing about $11.6 million and funded by the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency without city aid, aims to meet local housing needs.  WJON
