Good morning, St. Cloud. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 9th of July.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pantown Brewing in St. Cloud will host Beeranthropy on Wednesday, July 16 to raise funds for RSVP volunteers — the event will feature local craft brews, dinner provided by Custom Catering, live music by The Silver Sluggards, a silent auction, and matched donations up to $4,000 by the Steve and Mary Little Foundation.  WJON
  • St. Cloud Subaru donated $95,000 to the Public Safety Foundation to fund a new Rainbow playground at The Place of Hope’s Compassionate Hope Family Center at 121 Park Avenue—marking the third year they have led the Share the Love fundraiser. The donation supports local community outposts that offer police services, community resources, and other support programs.  KNSI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house fire in St. Cloud on Monday night sent flames 20 feet high and caused major damage to a home on the 1500 block of 11th Avenue Southeast—firefighters from Sartell and Sauk Rapids quickly joined in to contain the blaze as investigators work to determine the cause.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Cloud City Council backed Vista On Pinecone, a 58-unit affordable senior housing project for low to very-low-income seniors, by approving a $240,000 match allocation. The project at 1618 Pinecone Road—also offering seven units for at-risk homeless residents and on-site tenant support—will need to secure a state grant to move forward.  WJON
  • A planned unit development to nearly double the capacity of a daycare center on St. Cloud's north side passed unanimously at Monday's city council meeting. The 8000 square foot building, which was once used by a church for a daycare for 37 children, will now allow 71 after a United Way study showed a significant need for more spots.  KNSI

HEALTH NEWS

  • UCare will pause government-funded Medicaid and MinnesotaCare coverage in Stearns, Benton, Sherburne, Wright and other counties starting September 1, leaving many customers searching for new plans. Seniors and people with disabilities will keep their UCare plans as the company works with state and county officials to help affected members find new coverage.  KNSI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former St. Cloud Rox pitcher Alex Carrillo, 28, was called up to the New York Mets on Tuesday after he posted strong results in the minor leagues with Syracuse and Binghamton – striking out 40 batters in 25 innings.  KNSI

Maximize Space and Stay Organized with Compression Packing Cubes

Don’t overlook compression packing cubes for your next trip — they’re a simple but transformative travel essential. Designed to compress clothing and maximize space, these cubes help you fit twice as much into your suitcase without the bulk.

Beyond just saving space, compression packing cubes keep your luggage neat and organized. Group your outfits by day or category, separate clean and dirty clothes, or designate cubes for different family members when traveling together. No more rummaging through your suitcase — everything stays in its place, easily accessible when you need it.

Lightweight and durable, these cubes are ideal for carry-ons and checked bags alike. They also help prevent overpacking by limiting how much you can fit in each cube. Once you try them, you’ll wonder how you ever traveled without them.
