COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Central Minnesota has launched its annual School Supply Drive today by opening donation drop-off sites at Affinity Plus, Scheels, and the downtown office to support students in 18 school districts. Scheels will run a buy one gift-one backpack promotion from August 1 to August 7 & collected supplies will be distributed to meet each school’s needs.  WJON

CRIME NEWS

  • A car crashed into a St. Cloud home Sunday night when 25-year-old Jevonte Green intentionally violated a no-contact order—injuring himself and prompting his transport to St. Cloud Hospital—while a woman and her child in the home remained unharmed.  WJON
  • The West Fargo Police Department has asked Collegeville property owners to search their lands again in a continued investigation of missing North Dakota woman Jonett Wanner—who was last seen leaving work on July 11th, 2023 in her gray 2017 Nissan Rogue, possibly with her dog Scooby.  KNSI
  • The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in locating 15-year-old Alexavier Flores — last seen at his Cosmos home on July 6th — who may have run away and been in the Minneapolis area on July 9th.  KNSI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ledge Amphitheater in Waite Park will host a free open house tomorrow from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitors can join self-guided tours — ask staff about behind-the-scenes stories — and may even get a chance to sing on stage.  WJON

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Public Utilities is asking households, businesses or organizations to adopt a pond, roadway or rain garden to help keep road runoff from making local waterways dirty—supplies will be provided and groups will be recognized for their work.  City of St. Cloud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Cloud officials approved a new Tax Increment Financing measure last week to boost downtown development at the Lady Slipper Riverboat site and nearby areas. Developers have shown interest in residential projects with retail (including a possible grocery store) and more offers for the former Herberger’s property are expected.  WJON

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New housing projects are planned for St. Cloud’s south side along Highway 23 and County Rd 74, with multifamily units and commercial space set after an extended Tax Increment Financing period granted by state lawmakers plus strong occupancy at the County Rd 74 apartment complex showing demand. The city will also annex land west of Modern Barnyard along the Sauk River to host the new Stearns County Justice Center.  WJON
