COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in Waite Park can register by Friday for National Night to Unite and will receive a party pack with supplies for 50 along with a police visit. Paynesville will host a gathering at Gazebo Park on August 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.—featuring free food and meet-and-greet activities with police, fire and EMS teams.  WJON
  • The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota will host the 'Back to Our Future' summer benefit on August 7th from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at River’s Edge Convention Center where guests will enjoy a buffet, drink sampling, music, and a silent auction while Stearns Bank will match the first $15,000 in donations to help support programs for more than 5,000 teens.  KNSI
  • United Way of Central Minnesota will deliver personalized school supplies to 3,000 students across 18 school districts until August 15; the initiative partners with educators to match supplies to student needs as families face tight budgets. Donors may drop off items at Affinity Plus in St. Cloud, the Scheels desk at Crossroads Center mall, or the United Way Office at 921 1st Street North + also give by texting SCHOOL to 26989.  KNSI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, Officer Autumn Hanson from Big Lake Police rescued a driver after an SUV hit a tree and began burning on County Road 43— the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  KNSI

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was charged after he allegedly punched an officer, spat at another, and was found with drugs during a fight at the Lincoln Center homeless shelter on July 14—Benton County Attorney filed felony charges of assaulting a police officer and possessing a controlled substance.  St. Cloud Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pierz Freedom Fest is held this weekend at the Morrison County Fairgrounds and honors veterans with its National Anthem tradition—Tanna Funk will sing on Friday—and Janel Betsinger will perform on Saturday.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new vocational school named Heroes K9 Odyssey Academy is based at the Eagle’s Nest facility in Sauk Centre to offer veterans and first responders a tuition-free 12-to-16 week course that pairs them with rescue dogs and teaches skills like obedience and grooming — the academy will host a kickoff event on November 1 at the Waite Park Pavilion and a gala in March featuring a keynote from Matthew Beisner.  KNSI
  • Candidates interested in filling a vacant District 742 School Board seat can file from July 29 until August 12 — the vacancy arose when Bruce Hentges resigned for health reasons. Applicants may file at the St. Cloud Area School District Administration Office or submit a notarized form to the DOA office at 1201 2nd Street South in Waite Park with a $2 fee or 500 signatures — former board member Al Dahlgren holds the seat until a special election on November 4, and the elected candidate will serve until January 2029.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Police Department will host its monthly Dog Walker Watch meeting on Tuesday, July 22nd at Whitney Park’s dog park area off Forest Drive from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The meeting will cover cyber scams and frauds, and dog owners can join to learn crime prevention tips (part of a national program followed by over 2,000 communities).  KNSI

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Cloud V.A. is launching new nutrition classes and a MOVE program for veterans to help them eat better and stay active—these programs are offered both online and in person to fit busy lives. The V.A. will also host its 11th annual Summer Games on August 2 with registration ending on July 25.  WJON
