- ➤ Today, Catholic Charities in St. Cloud is running its annual summer food drive to support local families facing food insecurity throughout July—donations are accepted Monday through Friday with special hours for seniors on the second and fourth Tuesdays. Catholic Charities President Aaron Fisk said nearly 1,000 more individuals have used the food shelf compared to last year and that cash donations help stretch resources three times further. WJON
- ➤ St. Cloud Financial Credit Union announced a $420,000 donation to help the St. Cloud Area Family YMCA build a new outdoor water park. The YMCA has raised nearly $11 million of the $15 million needed and will work with SCFCU to offer birthday party experiences for families — an effort set to meet a Labor Day deadline to avoid increased construction costs. - ➤ A vehicle was broken into on the 300 block of 2nd Avenue South in Waite Park—Alicia Mages from Tri-County Crime Stoppers urged car owners to lock doors and hide valuables to prevent future break-ins. WJON
- ➤ St. Cloud police are asking the public to help find Troy Allen Strawn, a 44-year-old man who went missing May 19th from his apartment in the 300 block of 8th Avenue South, and he is described as —6 feet 2 inches tall with brown hair and blue eyes—; anyone with information should call —3202511200—. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud Tech High School’s Morning Show students won six awards at the Upper Midwest Foundation’s Student Production Awards as senior Alex Schaefer was named top audiovisual student in the region. Their wins cover music video, animation/graphics/special effects, editing, photography, and a promotional video — all winners will advance to national competition in the fall. KNSI
- ➤ Sauk Rapids is moving forward with plans to build a new early childhood center and outdoor activity complex near the high school. Sauk Rapids-Rice Superintendent Brad Bergstrom said staff feedback in phase two of design — which followed a February bond approval of $37.2 million for the center and $17.7 million for the complex — will help architects create public renderings. - ➤ St. Cloud is upgrading streets and utilities this summer with several road projects underway. The Pantown Project is replacing water and sewer lines while 8.5 miles of street resurfacing is nearly complete—Lincoln Avenue reconstruction, lead service line replacement on Riverside Drive Northeast, and Metro Forcemain repairs with paving next Friday are also in progress.
