- ➤ Sartell began as a mill town when Joseph B. Sartell settled there in 1854 and grew after a paper mill opened in 1907; local historian Ron Hurd and former mayor Tim O'Driscoll say creating a school district in 1969 spurred further growth. The town now has 19,726 people and is expected to exceed 25,000 by 2035. WJON
- ➤ The inaugural Stearns County Fair Milk Run 5K will take place on August 9th at the fairgrounds where runners will start near the fair office and wind through the grounds before returning to finish the race. Dairy farmers and their families register for free while others sign up at $15 until July 28th with registration raising to $20 afterward — finishers will enjoy cold chocolate milk from Stony Creek Dairy. - ➤ A welfare check on Friday in Pierz revealed two dead individuals at a home on River Valley Road—local authorities and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the case. WJON
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This weekend is the last three days of the Do Portugal Circus’s show in St. Cloud. The animal-free performance—led by ringmaster and trapeze daredevil Aldo Portugal—features a custom big top with seating for 1,000 and acts scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. KNSI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Stearns County Parks Department and Great River Greening are teaming to improve Spring Hill Park’s wildlife habitat by restoring 35 acres of prairie and woodlands to support pollinators and reduce mowing—work planned for this summer and 2026. KNSI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lincoln Avenue Southeast and 7th Street Southeast in St. Cloud will close Monday for utility work, with detours marked and north access provided from Highway 23/Division Street. The closure is part of a Lincoln Avenue reconstruction project and is set to run until about Friday—weather permitting. WJON
- ➤ Waite Park City Council will vote Monday on a $17.5M construction bid to finish the public safety and city hall expansion project. The bid covers systems work and finishes, and 20 of the 34 contractors are local—keeping the project, which is funded by a half-cent sales tax and capital bonds, on track for late 2026 completion.
