Good morning, St. Cloud. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 23rd of July.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Vicki Davis spent nearly 40 years leading TriCounty Humane Society—she reduced euthanasia rates and expanded its facilities after growing up on a local farm east of St. Cloud. She retired and now lives on the same farm where her grandparents once raised animals.  WJON
  • Heroes K9 Odyssey Academy, a new nonprofit, pairs veterans and first responders with rescue dogs to help both learn useful skills and build lasting bonds—aiming to turn rescue dogs into service dogs. The academy plans to open in spring 2026 and will host a fundraiser on November 1 and a gala on March 21 to support its programs.  WJON
  • Great River Regional Library is part of a state park pass program that gives library patrons free seven-day access to Minnesota state parks — passes available at St. Cloud Public Library and others — and covers only vehicle entrance fees, meaning separate fees apply for camping reservations.  WJON

CRIME NEWS

  • Thirteen-year-old Lierra Lanea Andrews, who went missing near downtown on July 18th, was found by the St. Cloud Police Department on July 22nd — authorities did not say if she returned home on her own or where she was found.  KNSI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ten teens from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota finished a two-day leadership summit last week in St. Cloud where they learned skills in interactive workshops and group challenges. They also volunteered at local KIDSTOP sites and set leadership goals for the upcoming school year.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a June 30 wildfire in Idaho killed two firefighters and a July 15 incident near Duluth involved a suspect setting up homemade devices, St. Cloud Fire Chief Matt Love said his department is boosting safety measures and installing a new computer-aided dispatch system — which sends police ahead on certain calls — to protect first responders. The department works closely with police and state agencies to ensure that responders arrive on scene safely.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local American Legion baseball games on July 20 saw Pierz beat Little Falls 4-3 and Sauk Rapids defeat St. Cloud 11-2, while Sartell and Willmar also won their match-ups over Albany and Cold Spring (all games featured strong local competition).  WJON

Maximize Space and Stay Organized with Compression Packing Cubes

Don’t overlook compression packing cubes for your next trip — they’re a simple but transformative travel essential. Designed to compress clothing and maximize space, these cubes help you fit twice as much into your suitcase without the bulk.

Beyond just saving space, compression packing cubes keep your luggage neat and organized. Group your outfits by day or category, separate clean and dirty clothes, or designate cubes for different family members when traveling together. No more rummaging through your suitcase — everything stays in its place, easily accessible when you need it.

Lightweight and durable, these cubes are ideal for carry-ons and checked bags alike. They also help prevent overpacking by limiting how much you can fit in each cube. Once you try them, you’ll wonder how you ever traveled without them.
