COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kids from across St. Cloud are invited to join police and firefighters for a fishing event along Lake George today from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Hosted by the Lake George Fishing Club, the Badges and Bobbers event lets children meet local public safety officials and enjoy fishing—participants should bring their own rod since gear is limited.  KNSI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A freight train hauling hazardous materials derailed near Watkins on Thursday evening, and first responders confirmed there were no injuries or leaks while crews worked to clear the track and manage a partial closure on the 66000 block of Meeker/Stearns Street.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last weekend, six St. Cloud Metro Bus drivers competed at Mesabi Range Campus in Virginia during the 38th Annual Statewide Bus Roadeo, a contest that tested their parking and safety skills. David Peacock repeated his first win in the Small Bus Division—while Keith Drake finished second—and Jason Hiivala, Carl Hallberg, Wayne Prescott and Mike Stommes placed high.  KNSI
  • Crews on Lincoln Avenue will ramp up road work next week by removing pavement between 4th Street and Division Highway 23 to begin utility upgrades near 7th Street SE. Drivers and local businesses like Runnings and Cashwise should plan for detours as access becomes limited during the project.  WJON

  • Central Minnesota offers summer fun with activities like farm-to-table pizza nights at Alpha and Omega Farm—berry picking at J.Q. Fruit Farm, e-bike rides from Lake Wobegon Outfitters, art classes and live music at Art in Motion, and craft sessions at Avon Hills Folk School. SPORTS NEWS

  • The school board approved that St. Cloud Apollo will join Tech High School’s co-op boys’ swimming and diving team under the Crush name to address low numbers ahead of the 2025–26 season, since each school had fewer than ten returning swimmers. The schools will soon fill a head coaching position + share practice facilities while building a stronger feeder program to compete in regional meets.  KNSI
