- ➤ The Central Minnesota Community Foundation announced three winners for the Awards in Philanthropy—Lee and Vicki Morgan, Farhiya Iman, and attorney Stefanie Brown. Their awards will be celebrated on September 4 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Park Event Center in Waite Park. KNSI
- ➤ Quiet Oaks Hospice in St. Cloud is raising money for its new Veterans Compassionate Care Fund with a goal of $250,000 by Veterans Day, having reached 65 percent of its target as of Memorial Day; it will host a motorcycle run fundraiser and an Autumn Reflections event on September 22 at the Park Event Center in Waite Park + more details on the ride will be announced soon. - ➤ A Minnesota man with a history of child abuse was given a 35-year prison sentence for making and sharing pictures that exploited a child under 13 — his crimes took place from summer 2023 to January 2024 and came after an earlier conviction in Mille Lacs County. KNSI

- ➤ Darius Rucker brought his Carolyn's Boy Tour to the Ledge Amphitheater in Waite Park on Thursday night, performing country hits, nostalgic classics and a surprise cover of Purple Rain during a 75-minute set after opening act Shane Profitt. The hot, humid air did not stop the sold-out crowd from enjoying his performance—he shared brief stories between songs. WJON

- ➤ St. Cloud Area School District approved plans to renovate Apollo High by adding a secure entrance with designs due by September—construction on the school will start next summer and finish in summer 2028. The new athletic facility has advanced stakeholder input and will break ground in spring with completion in time for the spring athletic season in 2027—detailed plans support the project. WJON

- ➤ High water levels from a wet July led county sheriffs to impose no wake restrictions so boaters near 300 feet from shore may steer only as needed—water patrols are checking for rule violators. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News said heavy rains may affect pheasant hatchings while wild turkeys, geese, ducks, and ruffed grouse remain steady—grouse drumming counts fell slightly compared to last year. - ➤ The Stearns County Sheriff's Office reminds boaters that no-wake zones remain in effect today on area lakes due to heavy rain raising water levels—posted signs at access points stay up until water drops below the problem level. The rules cover several lakes including Two Rivers, Rice, North Brown's, Big Lake, the Sauk River Chain, Grass, Clearwater, Lake Augusta, Lake Carolina and Middle Spunk Lake in Avon with a 300-foot wake restriction.
