- ➤ On Friday morning, Daniel Fredin, 35, fell 12 feet from a steel roof while cleaning gutters in Eden Lake Township and was airlifted to CentraCare-St. Cloud Hospital as investigators looked into the incident. KNSI
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ April Klaphake of Sauk Centre is a finalist for Princess Kay of the Milky Way at the Minnesota State Fair, representing Stearns County and her deep dairy roots. She will travel to the Twin Cities on Monday for judging on Tuesday before a Wednesday coronation — if not crowned, her likeness will be carved in a 30-pound butter block on August 30th — and she is a pre-med student planning to serve in rural family medicine. - ➤ Saint Cloud State University and the City of St. Cloud Park and Recreation Department will host the Stars and S’mores event on September 26th and 27th at Wilson Park; families can enjoy telescope viewing + arts and crafts along with graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows between 8:30 and 10:00 p.m. with about 35 slots available nightly and a $5 registration fee. - ➤ St. Cloud Area School District 742 will visit homes Tuesday to welcome new kindergarten students and families—each visit will include a gift bag with school supplies and goodies to build a strong start to the school year. KNSI
- ➤ Three candidates have emerged to fill a vacant at-large seat on the St. Cloud school board after Bruce Hentges stepped down for health reasons in February. The candidates—Gina Acevedo, Al Dahlgren and Peter Hamerlinck—will be on the ballot for the November 4 special election following a primary on August 12 and a mandatory 48-hour withdrawal period. - ➤ The St. Cloud Area School District will hold a special election on November 4 to select a new board member. Three candidates—current board member Al Dahlgren, Gina Acevedo, and Peter Hamerlinck—filed during the open period and will be on the ballot. WJON
- ➤ Talahi Community School in St. Cloud will distribute free eco-friendly school supplies to preschool through third grade students this fall — the offer is funded by local support from St. Cloud Rotaract and philanthropists Tom and Janet Grones. The school district plans to expand the initiative to all PK-5 students in the future — the move aims to ease costs for families. WJON

- ➤ At Wednesday’s city council meeting, officials approved five change orders for the fire hall project that will save Cold Spring about $1,000 by adjusting electric work—adding overhead door warning lights, under-eaves lighting, key pad relocation, extra drilling for contractors, and lowering a lighting conduit—which will cost the city $15,828 instead of an extra $16,820. Officials also announced a ribbon cutting and open house for the fire hall on October 11 from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. KNSI
