COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Area Planning Organization is asking residents to share feedback via an online survey on proposed safety improvements – including a new pedestrian crossing at 15th Street South in Sartell, a Rapid Flashing Beacon at Benton Drive and 10th Street North in Sauk Rapids, and a 400-foot sidewalk along 33rd Avenue South near Saint Germain Street in St. Cloud – to help reduce and eliminate serious and fatal crashes by 2050.  WJON
  • Great River Children's Museum will host its first Sip N’Play night for adults on Thursday, September 18th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The event will feature a timed climber race, disco dancing at the Headwaters Exhibit and rubber duck races—tickets cost $30 and proceeds will fund the museum’s Path to Play initiative.  KNSI

CRIME NEWS

  • The Stearns County Sheriff's Office is asking residents in Farming Township and St. Martin to help find 65-year-old Donald Theisen—who left his home at 1:50 a.m. and was last seen walking westbound on County Road 177 at 2:30 a.m.—as his family fears for his safety.  WJON
  • The Stearns County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to locate 65-year-old Donald Theisen who walked away from his home early Wednesday morning before 2:00 a.m. and was last seen walking west on County Road 177 near Farming and St. Martin while wearing blue jeans, a black polo shirt, black shoes, and using a cane – his family remains very worried about his safety.  KNSI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Paramount Center for the Arts will host Mixtape Magic on September 6—an 80s-themed fundraiser featuring bands A Flock of Seagulls, Naked Eyes, and Tommy Tutone, with a pre-show party starting at 5:30 p.m. Thirty dollars from each ticket sale will support local art programs.  WJON
  • Two young women from the St. Cloud area vied for the title Princess Kay of the Milky Way at a dairy competition held Wednesday night before the state fair; Dairy Princess Heidi Montag of Benton County and Dairy Princess April Klaphake of Stearns County each aimed to become Minnesota’s goodwill ambassador as finalists had their likeness carved in a 90-pound block of butter.  KNSI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Starting Saturday, the DNR will let anglers keep up to three walleye at Mille Lacs Lake if each fish is at least 17 inches with only one allowed to exceed 20 inches—this rule will run until November 30. The change comes after low harvests caused by abundant forage fish that slowed the bite.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a permit to convert the former Sta-Fit building into Vista Daycare — a facility that will serve up to 200 children and include an event center and a future coffee shop to meet local childcare needs. Owners said they will meet state requirements next so that the daycare can open in early 2026.  KNSI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cathedral football had a record of 7 to 4 last season and is gearing up for the 2025 season in its new AA classification with returning starters and new players from lower grades. The team will begin play on August 28 at Holdingford at 7 p.m. — coach Andrew Leintz said the squad aims to build on past success.  WJON
  • Local hockey player Nate Schmidt will bring the Stanley Cup to St. Cloud on August 25 – he began his career at Cathedral and later played in the NHL with teams including the Florida Panthers – as he celebrates his journey from hometown star to champion.  WJON
