COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Woofstock returns on September 13 — the Tri-County Humane Society will host its 37th annual event with fun contests, bouncy houses, and a dog kissing booth while expecting 200 people and aiming to raise $50,000. Register by August 25 for a $35 fee to join the fundraiser. KNSI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 61-year-old Canadian truck driver was charged in Stearns County for soliciting a minor after investigators created a fake 17-year-old profile and set up a meeting at a south St. Cloud truckstop—he admitted to planning a paid encounter. WJON
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Minnesota State Fair is showcasing a new foods list — featuring treats like bacon dishes, cheese curds and spicy vegan options — from various vendors. The fair began August 21st and will run through Labor Day. KNSI
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud startup Impacks—created by Clare and Brandon Richards—is a finalist in the Education and Training division of the Minnesota Cup and will compete for a $25,000 prize, with the overall $50,000 winner to be announced on October 6th. WJON
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said starry stonewort has spread over about 1.5 acres at Two Rivers Lake near Holdingford from the boat launch and now water activities are harder — volunteers join the annual Starry Trek in early August to track the invasive algae so it does not crowd out native plants. KNSI
- ➤ Central Minnesota may see lilacs bloom again in September because wet weather made many bushes go dormant — Master Gardener Bill Cook said the extra bloom will not hurt the plants and they will still form buds for next spring. This unusual weather gives local gardeners a chance to enjoy a rare fall display. WJON
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Visitors to Wilson Park must find an alternate route on Monday as Riverside Drive Northeast, from 6th to 7th Street, will be closed for utility improvements—City Engineer’s Office said no detour will be provided and this marks the second such work in under a week. KNSI
- ➤ The City of St. Cloud named Luke Langner, a longtime assistant city engineer, as its new public services director—he will begin on Monday, September 8th. Langner has managed major infrastructure projects and is set to improve city services and operations. KNSI
