COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the August 18th meeting, the St. Joseph City Council honored first responders and community members for their rapid aid during Bryan Becker’s medical emergency on June 26th at Kwik Trip—police, fire, and ambulance crews used CPR, an AED, and a LUCAS device to help him fully recover at CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital. Becker and his family attended the ceremony.  KNSI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Friday morning, fire crews responded to a house fire on the 6400 block of Laurel Road at 6:21 a.m. and found the flames contained to the garage with only minor damage to the kitchen while no one was inside—Fire Chief Matthew Love credited the new Ladder 2 truck with preventing further spread.  KNSI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Staff, teachers, and community helped pack tote cases—filled with notebooks, crayons, glue sticks, and headphones—for Talahi Community School last Thursday. Donors Tom and Janet Grones and the Rotaract Club provided supplies that will fully equip classrooms from kindergarten to third grade and preschool district-wide for the upcoming 25-26 school year.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Administrator Tracy Hodel said St. Cloud is treating over 25 miles of roads, including University Avenue and Minnesota Boulevard, with Reclamite — a product that adds oil and sand to prevent cracks and extend pavement life. The project is part of ongoing maintenance as the city focuses on preserving freshly resurfaced roadways.  WJON
  • Two central Minnesota legislators announced that the famous .50 caliber gun from USS Ward, now outside the State Capitol in St. Paul, will be removed at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2nd for restoration and relocation to the new Military and Veterans Museum at Camp Ripley—this move will better preserve the state’s military history and precede a V-J Day commemoration at 11:45 a.m.  KNSI
  • MnDOT is hosting a public open house on August 27th—one meeting from 12 to 2 p.m. at Harvester Square, 539 East St. Germain in St. Cloud, and another from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Haven Town Hall, 4230 45th Ave. SE in St. Cloud—to present details of the HWY10 preliminary engineering study connecting St. Cloud and Haven Township.  City of St. Cloud

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today the Celebrate Aging Expo is held at River’s Edge Convention Center for residents over 55 from 8:00 a.m. to noon, with breakfast for the first 1,000 guests. Local vendors and groups offer tips on whole health options such as acupuncture and assisted living services.  KNSI

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • An analysis by Zumper showed that St. Cloud apartment rents remained near last year's $850 median—July listings averaged $849 compared to June's $875. One-bedroom rents dropped 13 percent from last year's rate while two-bedroom listings were 5 percent lower than in June.  St. Cloud Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • CMYSA finalized the purchase of Selke Field from St. Cloud State University for $350,000 — the 16-acre historic site with its granite wall from the 1930s will now serve as the permanent home for local youth soccer programs. The association raised over $100,000 through crowdfunding and plans to repair the 3,000-foot wall while inviting the community to a Selke Social on September 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  WJON
