- ➤ St. Cloud pet owners will join Woofstock—Tri-County Humane Society’s 37th Annual Companion Walk—at Wilson Park on September 13th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., enjoying pet-friendly contests, vendors and activities that help raise funds for the Humane Society. WJON
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud Technical and Community College created a new role for Vice President of Community, Culture, and Institutional Climate by hiring Alberto Ramos. He brings experience from leading a diversity center at Plymouth State University and several Minnesota State colleges and universities — and he earned two degrees from St. Cloud State University. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud will receive $80,034 for lead service line replacements as part of a $236.4 million award for 30 water projects in 18 cities—funding from the Minnesota Public Facility Authority designed to upgrade the city's water system. KNSI
- ➤ The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds waterfowl hunters that early teal season will run from September 6th to 10th and early goose season will run from September 6th through 21st. Hunters age 16 and older must have federal duck stamps — a small game license and required certifications, and they should be cautious around wild rice beds. WJON
- ➤ The Minnesota DNR is teaming with the Great River Regional Library to offer free parking passes for state parks. Residents must visit a library to choose an available week and use their library card to get a receipt to display in their car—each pass works for seven days and does not cover camping fees. WJON
- ➤ A report by the Roosevelt Institute calls for a public option to expand childcare sites and lower fees so that Minnesota families avoid spending nearly 19% of their income on care. City planning shows St. Cloud needs 5,300 more spots+ lawmakers have introduced bipartisan bills to help ease the shortage. KNSI
- ➤ The Minnesota Department of Transportation is hosting two open houses today to discuss a preliminary engineering study on safety and access management for Highway 10 in southeast St. Cloud and Haven Township—one meeting is at Harvester Square from Noon to 2:00 p.m. and the other is at Haven Town Hall from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. WJON
