COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 13th Annual Get Youth Outdoors Day will be held on September 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Wild Marsh Sporting Clays Shooting Facility in Clear Lake — the event is organized by Union Sportsmen’s Alliance with United Union of Roofers and Allied Workers to give youth and their families a chance to learn shooting and archery under trained supervision.  KNSI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • American Door Works in Waite Park is warning residents that some online ads present local service but actually connect them with call centers that charge three to four times the usual price—customers are urged to check the physical address and phone number to verify local service. The company’s statement follows several calls from confused consumers who contacted the wrong garage door repair service.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Cloud Area School District 742 now enrolls about 9,500 K-12 students—450 more than projected, with kindergarten seeing 80 extra students after Athlos Academy closed. Officials say South Junior High and Tech High School will gain the most from the increased enrollment.  KNSI
  • St. Cloud voters approved upgrades for Apollo High School in April and a board meeting on September 3 will show the new athletic center designs—featuring new turf and lighting. Construction will start next summer and finish by summer while summer projects also improved safety at other schools.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting September 3 through September 4, traffic on 22nd Street S will be managed by flaggers from Imperial Dr to Oak Grove Rd/CR 136 due to planned utility work—drivers may face delays despite ongoing traffic maintenance.  City of St. Cloud

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Central Minnesota Youth Soccer Association purchased Selke Field for $350,000 this week and took possession to expand soccer facilities and host community events. The association will repair a leaning wall near University Drive soon—planning a community event on September 21 for local families.  WJON
  • St. Cloud police and firefighters will face off in the first Guns + Hoses softball game on Monday, September 8th at Joe Faber Field, with fire trucks on display at 5:00 p.m. to welcome fans before the contest begins at 6:00 p.m.  KNSI
