COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud will host Festi-Fall on September 20th and 21st, with Oktoberfest at Beaver Island Brewing Company offering German-themed food, music, and beer Saturday, and a street fair on East Saint Germain featuring food trucks, live music, and a car show Sunday. The Downtown St. Cloud Alliance organizes the event — highlighting local vendors and community groups. WJON
- ➤ Coborn’s Inc. is partnering with the Folds of Honor Foundation this month—letting customers round up their totals or donate $1, $5, or $10 at checkout to fund scholarships for families of fallen and disabled service members and first responders; the fundraiser ends on September 30. KNSI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Three suspects from St. Cloud were arrested Tuesday evening after a brief police chase ended with a car crashing into a Waite Park yard— the 17-year-old driver now faces multiple serious charges while two adult suspects were cited and released. KNSI
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Economist King Banaian warned that rising inflation and higher property taxes are raising costs for residents and businesses in Central Minnesota—he said tariffs and a tight labor pool could soon drive up prices and slow job growth. WJON
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud State University accepted a $1.9 million life insurance gift from the Miller family, whose support spans nearly three decades. The funds will be divided among the James W. Miller Family Scholarship, the Miller Scholar Program, and the James W. Miller Family Technology Fund. KNSI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A significant construction project is underway on County Road 157 between west of 14th Street and Trunk Highway 238 in Albany—crews are installing storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water mains, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, road paving and landscaping, and drivers should use Interstate I-94 as a detour with work expected through early November and possibly longer if the weather is poor. - ➤ Drivers in the St. Joseph area now use a new roundabout at County Highway 133 and Elm Street that finished phase one of the Highway 133 project; phase two started Tuesday and will extend work from Elm Street to CSAH 75 — motorists are advised to follow a new detour to avoid delays. KNSI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. David Smith from Sartell Pediatrics says that as school starts this fall, kindergartners must get vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella plus other recommended shots while seventh graders need a meningitis boost to help keep kids healthy. He adds that sports physicals are required every few years and that frequent hand washing will help reduce germ spread—advice aimed at cutting down common fall illnesses like strep throat and hand, foot and mouth disease. - ➤ The Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm volleyball team won 3 to 0 over Sartell on Tuesday, September 2nd as Wendi Peterson led with 13 kills and Stella Lambaere had 10 digs — they will host Willmar today with the team remaining undefeated at 4 wins. WJON
